  Description

  Discovered in 2003 during test trenching in advance of the construction of the Ennis Bypass and Western Relief Road at the edge of and close to the surface of a peat bog and excavated in 2004. Excavation revealed seven discrete prehistoric burnt mounds (CL033-162001- to CL033-162007-). This record is for Area i which comprised two amorphous spreads of burnt stone (9.5m x 6.8m and 3.7m x 1.9m; T less than 0.05m). The stone was mostly limestone with some sandstone present.   Discovered in 2003 during test trenching in advance of the construction of the Ennis Bypass and Western Relief Road at the edge of and close to the surface of a peat bog and excavated in 2004. Excavation revealed seven discrete prehistoric burnt mounds (CL033-162001- to CL033-162007-). This record is for Area ii which lay on drier ground than the other burnt stone spreads and directly overlay natural gravel. It comprised a spread of burnt stone (8.4m x 5.6m; T 0.1-0.2m), mostly limestone with some sandstone and a small amount of charcoal. A radiocarbon determination of 1100-900 Cal BC was obtained.   Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey former house, built c. 1810, with pedimented central breakfront having flat-roofed projecting porch. Now in use as hospital. Fourteen-bay three-storey flat-roofed wing added to left hand side and six-bay two-storey wing added to right hand side, 1953. Hipped artificial slate roof with eaves consoles and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls with render quoins, render architraves, consoled entablatures over ground floor opening and moulded eaves course. Moulded cornice and label mouldings over round-headed openings to porch. Timber sliding sash windows and timber panelled door. Detached three-bay single-storey outbuilding to site.
