The proposed development includes for the upgrade of the existing Mallow WTP to bring it into compliance with Uisce Éireann technical guidance documents with regards the coagulation, flocculation & clarification (CFC), filtration, chemical storage & dosing and residuals treatment processes. In addition, as part of the upgrade works it is proposed to increase the capacity of the WTP from 4,754m3/day to 5,042m3/ 22 hours. The development will consist/consists of the following: • Upgrade of the existing CFC process, including for the following: o Construction of a new flash mixing chamber with vertical turbine paddle; o Construction of a 3 no. cell flocculation stage and mixing process (Note: The provision of the new flash mixing and flocculation tank will require the relocation of existing outdoor chemical bulk storage tanks, the demolition of an existing storage building adjacent the main WTP building and the relocation of existing overhead lines.) • Pipework modifications to the existing rapid gravity filters. • Upgrade of the existing washwater residuals and sludge handling processes to ensure adequate treatment of residuals prior to river discharge and adequate storage for sludge on site, including: o 1no. new below ground equalization tank o 1no. new above ground settlement tank to be installed. o Re-purpose the existing sludge holding tank as a sludge balance tank. o 1no. picket fence thickener. o 1no. new sludge holding tank. o 2 no. pumping station kiosks, including: -sludge pumping station -sludge holding tank feed pumping station • Upgrade of the existing chemical storage arrangements including: o Installation of 1 no. outdoor Fluoride Bulk storage tank with integrated weather shrouded bund o Installation of 2 no. outdoor Poly Aluminium Chloride bulk storage tanks with integrated weather shrouded bunds o Installation of 2 no. outdoor Sodium Hydroxide bulk storage tanks with integrated weather shrouded bunds o Installation of 1no. outdoor Sodium Hypochlorite bulk storage tank. o Installation of 2 no. dedicated chemical delivery apron upon which chemical delivery vehicles shall park while unloading chemicals to the bulk storage tanks. The surface water network for the chemical delivery apron shall be able to be isolated during chemical deliveries and redirected towards a dedicated underground containment tank to capture any chemical spills. o Installation of 1no. indoor Orthophosphate bulk storage tank and bund. (Note, the existing chemical building to be modified including for replacement of 2 no. windows with a single and double door respectively). • Upgrade of the road layout to facilitate the proposed infrastructure upgrade for delivery of chemicals and sludge removal off-site. • Upgrade the surface water management for the proposed works, ensuring that the design complies with the requirements for sustainable drainage system (SuDS). • All ancillary site works including upgrade of the existing electrical, instrumentation, control & automation of the plant, diversion of existing overhead power lines and tree and hedgerow removal.

Construction of a new pump station at Bearforest Lower, Mallow, to transfer flows from the network to the WWTP at Ballyellis. The development will contain a foul sump, storm sump, valve chamber, lifting gantries, access stairs, control house with MV Substation, storm tank, interconnecting pipework and chambers, overflow pipework and chambers from storm tank to river Blackwater, twin rising mains to WWTP at Ballyellis, flow meter chambers, odour control equipment, 2.4m high boundary fence, access gate, access roads, hardstanding areas, landscaping and all associated site development and site excavation works above and below ground. Existing pump station to be decommissioned and above ground structure demolished on completion. 3. Upgrade of sections of the sewer network in Mallow comprising construction of pipelines and chambers in fields, public open spaces, roads and footpaths in the townlands of Ballyellis, Bearforest Lower, Ballydahin, Carhookeal, Quartertown Lower, Castlelands, Mallow, Annabella, Lackanalooha, Kilknockan and Spa Glen. Pipelines will include a crossing of the river Blackwater between Castlelands and Bearforest Lower east of Mallow Bridge. A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) will be submitted to the Planning Authority with this application.

In pasture. Roughly circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by low earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.4m) S->N; linear earthen stone-faced field boundary to NE; earthen stone-faced field boundary to SE, which curves and most likely incorporates original earthen bank. Description
Built against rock face in quarry; second lime kiln to E recently removed. Overgrown random-rubble walls encase earthen core. Front elevation (H c. 5m) faces N with wall on W side projecting out into forecourt; buttress on E side. Lintelled corbelled recess (H 3m; Wth 2.6m; D 2.8m): sloping slabs to rear with stoking hole. Limestone-lined funnel (diam. c. 2.5m) almost totally infilled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
