  Description

  In tillage, on gentle E-facing slope, below crest of hill and c. 100m W of Awbeg River. Byblox House, now demolished, once stood c. 400m to SE. Depicted as enclosed irregularly shaped area, planted with trees on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 30m) on 1937 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. Cropmark of bivallate circular enclosure visible in aerial photograph (CASAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).   Description

  Gates to Byblox House, built c. 1790, house now demolished. Comprising coursed limestone rubble S-curved entrance walls terminating in vehicular gates flanked by pedestrian gates. Square-plan ashlar flat-topped piers with plinths and moulded copings, and having urns to outer piers. Single- and double-leaf decorative wrought-iron gates. Ruins of three-bay single-storey gate lodge to west, having red brick chimneystack, rendered limestone rubble walls, and square-headed window and door openings.
