  Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as polygonal area (c. 40m E-W; c. 45m N-S) planted with trees and named 'Grave Yard'; shown as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps and named 'Burial Ground'. In pasture, on gentle SW-facing slope. Circular area (42m N-S; 40m E-W) enclosed by low earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.1m). Pedestrian entrance through break (Wth 2m) in bank to SW. Interior surface uneven and overgrown; some grave markers noted; earliest legible inscription dated 1880. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.   Description

  Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace of enclosure; house, now abandoned, built on site. According to Bowman (1934, 194), Mrs. O'Connell's residence is built on site of levelled single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 31yd).   In pasture, on S-facing slope. Circular area (30m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.65m); external fosse (max. D 0.4m). Bank planted with deciduous trees. Interior heavily overgrown.   Description

  In Kanturk, beside Brogeen Bridge (14809), on N bank of tributary to River Allow. Mill is 2-storey rectangular structure built of random-rubble sandstone; now roofless and missing N end wall- remains now completely enclosed by modern mill producing animal feed compounds. None of old machinery survives; mill contained two sets of millstones powered by undershot waterwheel, later replaced by turbine (O'Sullivan 1984, 80). One-storey creamery on W side, built in mid 19th century; this was raised to 2 storeys in 1956 when part of mill converted to make cheese and butter (ibid.). Mill here shown on estate maps of 1702 and named Manor Mill (ibid., 75); according to O'Sullivan (ibid., 78) this was 1-storey and thatched, repaired in1737 but let fall into ruin by 1744. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as rectangular ruin (long axis E-W) named 'Flour Mill (in ruins)' with millrace flowing along W wall, millrace taken from tributary c. 1km to W. Indicated on 1905 OS 6-inch map as large complex named 'Brogeen Mill (Corn)/Brogeen House/Creamery'. From 1880s to 1910s, manufacture of cheese and butter became primary function of complex with grinding of corn secondary (ibid.).   Description

  Detached five-bay three-storey house, built c. 1800, having recent porch addition to front, and two-bay two-storey extension to rear. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and render eaves course. Pitched slate roof to extension. Rendered walls, except for exposed rubble stone west gable, façade having render plinth course and render sill courses to upper floors. Camber-headed openings with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, and having some replacement uPVC windows to ground floor. Limestone sills to ground floor. Blocked window to ground floor of west gable. Round-headed entrance doorway with fanlight and half-glazed timber panelled double-leaf doors, obscured by recent porch. Four-bay two-storey outbuilding to rear with pitched slate roof, painted rendered rubble sandstone walls, and square-headed louvered windows. Rubble sandstone masonry boundary wall attached, with elliptical-arched vehicular entrance with roughly dressed sandstone voussoirs. Two-bay single-storey gate lodge to east, having bay windows to front elevation, single-bay flat-roof extension to east, with hipped slate roof, rendered chimneystack, painted rendered walls with render plinth course and pilasters to corners, square-headed one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and render sills. Square-profile rendered piers with double-leaf cast-iron gates. Sweeping rendered walls with render copings to road entrance.
