The application site comprises an area of c. 5.61hectares. The site is primarily located in the townland of Corracunna and is surrounded by agricultural lands to the North and East, with the N73 national route to the south, and the L90813 local road to the west. The site takes in lands at Coolnanave and Garrane, on the western side of the L90813, to the west and north west of the main site area, to provide woodland planting and an underground drainage pipe and outfall. The proposed development comprises the construction of an anaerobic digestion facility to produce renewable biomethane, CO2 (which will be captured) and a bio-based fertiliser from organic material. The total proposed gross floor area of the development (including internal plant areas and ancillary structures) will be c. 3,419.5 sq.m. Permission for the; (1) Demolition of existing single storey disused agricultural buildings, silos, and tank within the western portion of the site (total demolition gross floor area (GFA) of c. 1,781 sq.m). One single storey agricultural building (with GFA of c. 87.8 sq.m and height of c. 5.1m) will be stabilised and retained as a biodiversity building. (2) Construction of 3 no. digesters (c.15.6m in height), 2 no. digestates storage structures (c. 15.5m and 11m in height), 2 no. liquid storage tanks (c.12.2m in height) and a liquid feed tank (c. 8m in height), located in the southeast portion of the site. (3) 3 no. pasteurisation tanks (each c. 6m in height), a post-pasteurisation cooling tank (c.12.2m in height) and pre fertiliser manufacturing tank (c.12.2m in height), located in the centre of the site. (4) part single-storey and part two-storey reception hall (with a GFA of c. 2,112.6 sq.m and an overall height of c. 15.5m) to accommodate a laboratory, panel room, tool store, workshop, and storage areas, with a liquid feed intake adjacent to the reception hall, located in the central portion of the site, to the north of the digesters. (5) a single-storey solid digestate storage and nutrient recovery building (with a GFA of c. 879.9 sq.m and a overall height of c.12.4 in height) will be located to the west of the reception hall, in the central portion of the site. (6) Odour abatement plant (with a maximum height of c. 6m in height) and equipment, a digestate offtake area, and a fuel tank (c. 1.6 in height) will be provided to the north of the solid digestate storage and nutrient recovery building. (7) Construction of an ESB substation (c. 3.4m in height) 2 no. CO2 tanks and a CO2 loading pump (c. 14.5m in height), along with associated plant structures including CO2 auxiliaries, CO2 liqueufactor, a CO2 compressor and a CO2 pre-treatment skid (with an overall height of c. 6.7m), located in the southwest portion of the site. (8) Construction of a biogas treatment skid, a biogas compression system, a biogas upgrading module (with an overall height of c. 5.1m) and a grid injection unit within a fenced compound (c. 2.8m in height), located within the southwestern portion of the site. (9) Construction of an emergency biogas flare (c. 11.3m in height) 2 no. propane tanks (c. 1.3m in height) and a grid off take skid, located further to the west of the site. Description
On S bank of Funshion River. Partial remains of long 2-storey rectangular mill (long axis SW-NE). Shallow earth-cut millrace flows through centre of building from NW to SE, tall arched opening (now blocked) in SE wall over millrace. Foundation stones for machinery at NE end of building. Two-storey addition to SW with corrugated iron gable-ended roof. Three additions project from full length of SE wall of mill. At NE end is square 2-storey structure (5.85m x 5.9m) of rubble limestone construction with ashlar quoins, 1st floor raised with sandstone rubble; wide ground-floor door in centre of SE elevation, under 1st-floor window; hipped roof with central valley. At SW end is a long 2-storey, gable-ended structure; chimney on gable. Inserted between these two, and in line with NE addition, is a broad gable-ended, 2-storey structure; arched opening (now blocked) low down on SE elevation, probably covered tail race; door ope off-centre at SW end; lintelled window opes; chimney atop gable. Roofs of three projections are hipped at NW end. Two stone-built outbuildings to SE, on NW edge of field (230m NE-SW; 110m NW-SE) which is named 'bleach green' on 1842 OS 6-inch map; also shown on map is 'watch house', which no longer survives. Residential house SW of mill is mid-/late-19th-century in appearance: front elevation (SW) of 3 bays, 2-storey, with brick surrounds to camber-headed window opes; central porch; chimneys on gable ends; 1-storey addition to rear replaced earlier addition. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as 'Bleach Mill and Woollen Factory', house shown but not named; map also shows millstream taken from river almost 2km to NE and fed into NE end of mill. Mill complex indicated on 1936 OS 6-inch map and named 'Ballyderrif House'. Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 373) describes this as 'an extensive bleach-green with flax and tucking mills, and machinery for carding and spinning wool, to which a power-loom for the manufacture of blankets has been lately added by the proprietors, Messrs. Description
In undulating pasture. Indicated as rectangular, overgrown field (c. 65m NE-SW; c. 60m NW-SE) surrounded by double fence on 1842, 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps; double fence only on NW and NE sides on 1905 OS 6-inch map; inner fence hachured on 1936 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; area of marshy ground enclosed on all four sides by barely perceptible depression also visible as differential growth pattern. Site inspected by OPW in 1974 prior to land reclamation works; their records describe a moated site, defined by fosse (c. 20ft wide) with inner bank (ext. H c. 8ft from base of fosse) and low outer bank (int. H c. 6ft from base of fosse; ext. H c. 2ft); also 'slight, recent-looking outer fosse'; NW side had been breached to allow tractor into interior to remove bushes. Listed by Barry (1981, 83, no. 33). Description
Five-arch limestone road bridge over River Funshion, built c. 1810, having recent parapets with square-profile brick piers and metal rails. Rubble sandstone walls and roughly dressed sandstone voussoirs to slightly pointed arches.
