Description
In pasture, on SE-facing slope, W of Owenbaun River. Roughly circular area (44m WNW-ESE; 32m NNE-SSW) enclosed by scarp (H 0.8m); external fosse (D 0.7m); outer earthen bank (H 1.2m). Break (Wth 2m) in bank to NW with causeway; gaps to E, ESE and SSW. Interior saucer-shaped possibly indicating former existence of a now levelled bank. Field fence running WNW-ESE truncates NNE side of enclosure. Broker (1937, 48) states that 'part of fort levelled'; he records 'one wide fence with moat inside and outside'. Aerial photograph taken April 1994 shows ringfort and surrounding field fences levelled (pers. comm. Dr D.D.C. Pochin Mould). In pasture, on E-facing slope, overlooking Owenbaun River. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps; external fosse hachured to SW on 1904 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; no visible surface trace. According to Broker (1937, 48), 'fort of 1/2 acre,high with deep moat'. Possible souterrain (9025) in interior. Description
In boggy ground, c. 100m S of another fulacht fiadh (CO039-089---). Heavily overgrown, circular mound of burnt material (diam. c. 8m; H 0.8m). In pasture, on break in E-facing slope. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m). Levelled; scarp (max. H 1.8m) survives N->E, enclosing level area to N of E-W field fence. No visible trace of enclosure S of field fence. In pasture, on break in N-facing slope overlooking Blackwater River valley to N and Owenbaun River valley to E. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 14m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured platform (diam. c.10m) on 1904 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; trace of enclosure survives as slight scarping up of ground on downslope to N. Broker (1937, 48) recorded on land of 'John Mahony. Fort less than 1/4 acre, very small'. - CO039-239 Souterrain
Description
On the N side of an E-W field boundary which crosses the interior of a levelled rath (CO039-091----). According to local information, an opening covered with slabs gave access to a lintelled passage (L c. 6m) which sloped down to the N and then curved back to the S. This passage led into a rectangular stone-built chamber (c. 1.2m E-W; c. 1.2m N-S), roofed with lintels. There are no visible remains of this souterrain at ground level.
