In pasture, on gentle E-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 and 1905 OS 6-inch maps; hachured as circular raised area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by fosse on 1936 OS 6-inch maps. Field boundary skirts enclosure (ENE->NE) on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps, but forms part of hachured enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. According to local information, single earthen bank with surrounding fosse, levelled c. late 1970's. Upstanding circular enclosure visible in aerial photograph (GSIAP, R649; May 1977), skirted by field boundary W->E. Possible enclosure (CO007-090---) lies c. 130m to NW. Description
In tillage, atop N-S ridge. Depicted as hachured square enclosure (c. 20m x c. 20m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured oval enclosure (c. 30m x c. 22m) on 1905 OS 6-inch map; as hachured, nearly circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1936 OS 6-inch map. Interior heavily overgrown and inaccessible; enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.8m). Bank, for most of its circumference, covered with field clearance stones and cut branches. Shape of enclosure could not be determined in field due to overgrowth and dumped material, but most likely oval/circular, as depicted on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps respectively. Description
Ruined remains of 1-storey multiperiod house. Entrance front, internal dividing walls, and part of rear elevation, built attached to and between two earlier gables. Entrance front (E) of 5 bays, four stone steps lead up to central round-headed door ope. Rectangular window opes with stone lintels and 18th century moulded stone sills; window at S end partially blocked by inserted wall. Steeply pitched S gable was internal wall of 17th-century house: projecting chimney stack on S side has large ground-floor fireplace (Wth 1.52m), dressed ashlar limestone surround (Wth 0.41m) with chamfered edge, remains of brick-domed bread oven on W side with two flues; narrow brick-arched fireplace on 1st floor. North side of S gable contains small fireplace in shallow projection. Central (blocked) window at ground-floor level in N gable, inserted into internally projecting fireplace. Interior divided by a central hallway (Wth 4.04m), slightly projecting to rear, with rooms (c. 5.5m sq.) on either side; corner fireplace in N room; remains of short projection to rear on N side; later addition to rear on S side built into slope. Abandoned range of 2-storey farm buildings nearby. House shown in this vicinity on Down Survey (1655-6) (1655-6) barony map. According to local information, remains of house demolished in 1990s. Description
In pasture, on break in NW-facing slope and overlooking stream to NE. Oval, slightly raised area (27.2m E-W; 21.3m N-S) enclosed by low earthen bank (max. int. H 0.7m) to S and W; scarp (H 0.85m) elsewhere; external fosse (D 0.6m) to E, W and N. Bank and scarp heavily overgrown. Fosse shallow to N; waterlogged to W. In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised area (diam. c. 23m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1m) except to E; external fosse infilled to NW and S with field clearance material, not clearly defined elsewhere. Bank nearly levelled on W side; gap in bank to NNE; no visible surface trace of limekiln depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map to NNE. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured irregular enclosure on S side of rock outcrop; on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps as hachured penannular raised area open to N, where quarry cuts into interior. In pasture, on E-facing slope. Interior defined by scarp (H 0.8m) NE->SW; much of NE quadrant quarried away; enclosing bank to N levelled c. 1976-1986. Interior surface uneven and broken by rock outcrop; crossed by low NE-SW field boundary. According to local information, tradition of burials here. In pasture, atop slight rise, c. 260m N of Awbeg River. Indicated on 1842, 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps as circular field named the 'Round Acre', with farmhouse and yard to NE. Circular area (91m E-W; 88m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.15m) with external fosse (D 0.35m). Fosse waterlogged to N. Breaks in bank to NE, SSE, SSW and NW. Description
In quarry, to N of avenue into Moyge House (14921) c. 200m to E. Quarry indicated here on 1842 OS 6-inch map, lime kiln on 1905 OS 6-inch map, and quarry with kiln on 1936 OS 6-inch map. Front elevation has brick-arched recess, rear of recess collapsed, filled with collapsed material from funnel and core. Demolished subsequent to site inspection.
