Description
One of four caves in limestone quarry-face. Excavation (Coleman 1942, 63-76) revealed one habitation layer from which all finds came. Iron and bronze objects and worked bone and stone dated to Early Christian period. Bird bones, fish shells, charcoal and bones of domesticated and wild animals were also recovered. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). Description
A small spread (6.8m N-S; 3.75m E-W; D c. 0.15m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was exposed here in 2007 during archaeological test-trenching in advance of a proposed development (pers. comm. Description
Terraced three-bay single-storey house, built c. 1800. Hipped corrugated-iron roof with render eaves course and rendered and brick chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls with render quoins and plinth course. Square-headed openings having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows and concrete sills. Square-headed opening with half-glazed timber panelled door.
