Description
Depicted as rectangular field on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured square raised area (c. 40m NE-SW; c. 35m NW-SE) on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps. In pasture, on NW-facing slope of Knockatluah, and c. 90m SE of Tooraleagan River. Levelled; linear field boundaries skirt site on NW and NE sides. Cropmark visible in aerial photograph (CASAP) of wide, linear fosse on SE and SW sides. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Description
In pasture, on NNE-facing slope, below summit of Knockatluah. Circular area (32m E-W; 31m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening fosse (max. D 1.25m). Both inner (int. H 0.7m) and outer (H 1.6m) banks very pronounced on down slope but survive as low undulations on upslope. Gap in both banks to NNW and SSE. Fosse deepest on upslope, shallow elsewhere. Interior cut into hillside on SSW side to compensate for hillslope; undulations noted in interior surface form no definite shape.
