Description
In pasture 120m E of the Ahaphuca River that marks the townland boundary with Tulla. Standing stone (LI057-053----) lies 300m to SE and enclosure (LI057-054----) 350m to E. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-rectangular-shaped area (dims. c. 20m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by a scarp with external fosse and outer bank from SE-S-NW. Surveyed in 1978 when described as a double banked and ditched ringfort (diam. 22m) enclosed by a ditch (Wth 2m) and outer bank (Wth 0.5m; H 0.5m) at W. Truncated at N by a dyke running E-W. At NW there are remains of a rectangular-shaped area (dims. 6m x 10m) enclosed by banks that may represent a structure. Outline of rectangular-shaped monument is visible on Google Earth orthoimages where it is truncated at N by a watercourse and at E by a farm track running N-S. See attached Google Earth orthoimages. OSi 6-inch map where it is depicted as a rectangular-shaped enclosure. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a sub-rectangular-shaped area (dims. c. 30m N-S; 28mE-W) defined by a scarp from E-S-W incorporated into a field boundary elsewhere. Truncated at N by field boundary running NE-SW and at NE by field boundary running NW-SE. Outline of roughly circular-shaped area (diam. c. 28m) enclosed by poorly preserved bank and fosse visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages where it is truncated at E by a field boundary running NW-SE. OSi 25-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a scarp from SE-SW and NW-N and by a field boundary elsewhere. Truncated at E and W by field boundaries running NW-SE. Visible as a roughly circular shaped area defined by bushes on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimage.
