Description
In pasture 145m S of well (LI057-056----). Annotated ‘Carheen fort’ on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map where it is depicted as a rectangular-shaped area defined by a scarp with lime-kiln in SW corner. It is shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a roughly square-shaped area (dims. c. 30m NE-SW; 30m NW-SE) enclosed by a bank. Truncated at N and S by field boundary running N-S. Barry (1981, 84) listed the monument as a possible moated site. Outline of monument delimited by trees is visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. In pasture 85m E of a local road and 175m N of well (LI057-056----). Depicted as a rectangular enclosure on 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. It is shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a rectangular-shaped area (dims. c. 34m N-S; 28m E-W) enclosed by a bank from E-S-W NE. Intersected at N and field boundary running E-W. Barry (1981, 84) listed the monument as a possible moated site. Outline of monument delimited by trees is visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages where a farmyard building is located to immediate W. Description
In pasture 20m NW of a watercourse that marks the townland boundary with Tooraleagan and 50m W of the Monaheancree Stream that marks the county boundary with Cork. Annotated ‘Knockbrack fort’ on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map where it is depicted as a circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. It is shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped area (dims. c. 39m N-S; 55m E-W) enclosed by a bank from SW-N reduced to a scarp elsewhere with outer fosse from N-E and at S, gap at NNW. Visible as an oval-shaped cropmark delimited by trees on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
