• GA005-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a ridge summit in undulating grassland overlooking the Flaskagh River to N. Known locally as 'Higgin's Fort' (Neary 1914, 121, no. 29), this poorly preserved subcircular rath (E-W 34m, N-S 30.5m) is defined by a bank of earth and stone at E and by a scarp elsewhere. A gap (Wth 2.5m) at E may be original. A ringfort (GA005-004----) lies c. 250m to E.   Description

  Some 250m E of a ringfort (GA005-003----) and likewise known as 'Higgin's Fort' (Neary 1914, 121, no. 30). Poorly preserved circular rath (D 44m) defined by a scarp, no visible surface trace of which survives at E. A number of field boundaries cut the monument.
