  In farmland. Marked on OS maps as a circular enclosure (diam c. 30m). Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 180, no. 4) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 53.4m max.) defined by a bank and external fosse with an entrance gap (Wth 1.8m) at E. A possible souterrain (GA103-023001-) is associated (Holt 1912, 233).   Description

  On the summit of a hillock in undulating pastureland. Subcircular rath (58m NNW-SSE), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. A field boundary cuts the monument at NNW and SSE and no visible surface trace survives to SW of it. Another field boundary cuts it at NE. The inner bank is visible from NNW through N to SE, but the fosse and outer bank only survive from SE to SSE. Field-clearance rubble is piled against the inner bank at ESE.   Description

  In undulating pastureland. This standing stone consists of a limestone slab (H 2.3m; Wth 1.4m), rectangular in plan and aligned NW-SE. The base of the stone is 0.58m thick but on the SW face, at a height of 0.6m from ground level, it narrows to 0.35m where a natural ledge formation occurs. Very poorly preserved subcircular rath (27.3m NE-SW) defined by a collapsed bank of earth and stone from N through E to WSW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. • GA103-033001 Country house
  Description

  In low-lying pastureland. According to the OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 300-301), the ‘old church of Baile na Cuirte [GA103-031----] took its name from a large house said to have belonged to the Martins.’ Holt (1911-12, 241 (70)) identified this house as that shown as an L-shaped building on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map, c. 170m to the NNE of the church. A number of other buildings are shown on the map to its SE and SW and the house is located directly beside a NE-SW running road. By that time, Holt (ibid.) noted that the house was ruined and the ‘excellently cut stone work’ had been considerably reduced and reused in labourers’ cottages. On inspection in March 1983, only traces of this building survived. The longer section was aligned NE-SW (int. dims. L 17.6m; Wth 5.65m) and the shorter section (int. dims. L 15.5m; Wth 6.6m) extended off its SW end and ran NW-SE. Of the longer section, traces of the NW wall and the return of the NE wall survived. The rest of the latter wall, the SE and SW walls, and the walls of the shorter section only survived as collapsed grassed-over banks. Apart from the remains of four splayed windows (H 0.57m; D 0.58m; int. Wth 0.48m; ext. Wth 0.07m) in the NW wall of the longer section of the building, no other architectural features survived. The other buildings shown on the 1838 map were also reduced to grassed-over foundations. The remains of a cross (GA103-033002-) were noted lying beside one of them. • GA103-033002 Cross
  Description

  Lying on the ground to the NE of the foundations of a building that may be associated with the house (GA103-033001-) and brewery (GA103-033003-) owned by the Martyn family (Holt 1911-12, 241 (70)). According to Holt (ibid.), this ‘tall slender pillar of cut limestone’ initially stood near the roadside. It was insecurely set ‘in a square graduated pedestal’ and subsequently fell and broke during a gale. After that, ‘one half lay on the ground and the other had been requisitioned to block a gap.’ On inspection in March 1983, the base and shaft were together on the ground. Gosling (1986, 17-18) noted that the octagonal limestone shaft (L 2.5m) was flat topped and he suggested that the cross was probably of 16th-17th century date, and that it may have functioned as a wayside or market cross, though local people informed Holt (1911-12, 241 (70)) that it was 'only the shaft of the brewery scales'.   Description

  On a gentle N-facing slope on the S side of a broad shallow valley. This fulacht fia is defined by an oblong grassy mound (c. 11m NW-SE; 6.5m NE-SW; H 0.8m) that is cut across, on an ENE-WSW axis, by a shallow grass-covered trench, creating the effect of two discrete but contiguous mounds. However, the mound appears to have been kidney-shaped originally, opening towards the NE. There are three other fulachta fia in this valley (GA103-036----, GA103-037001- and GA103-037002-). • GA103-036 Fulacht fia
  Description

  On marshy ground at the foot of a steep slope on the N side of a broad shallow valley, some 210m to the NNW of another fulacht fia (GA103-035----). This fulacht fia is defined by a low grassy oval mound (11m NNE-SSW; 8m ESE-WNW; H 0.7 max.) that is cut through on the N side by a grass-covered trench running on a ESE-WNW axis. No discernible trace of the trough area is evident unless it is in the area disturbed by the trench. • GA103-037001 Fulacht fia
  Description

  Some 175m to the W of another fulacht fiadh (GA103-035----), close to the N bank of a small stream in a broad shallow valley, which opens out to the sea a short distance to the SW. This fulacht fia consists of a roughly horseshoe-shaped grassy mound (13m N-S; c. 12m E-W; H c. 1.1m) opening towards the E. It is well defined from S to W; elsewhere its limits are marked by a change of vegatation. The position of the trough area is marked by nettle growth.   Description

  Some 2.5m to the S of another fulacht fia (GA103-037001-). This fulacht fia is defined by a large grassy mound (c. 10m NNE-SSW; c. 8m ESE-WNW; H c. 1.2m max.) that is cut by a field wall at NE and SW which obscures its plan. It appears to have originally been horseshoe-shaped opening towards the SSW. The mound has been partly disturbed to the SE of the wall where a large whitethorn bush is growing.   Description

  In land liable to flooding. Marked on the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 42m) defined by a line of hachures from NW through E to S and by a pronounced curving laneway from S to NW. Described by Holt (1912, 232, no. 64) as a 'nameless caher, of the wall of which about one third remains, forming the mearing between Carrowmore and Ballynacourty'.
