  Description

  At SSE end of Loch na Scainimhe. A small natural island (NW-SE 60m; E-W 30m), roughly trapezoidal in shape and known locally as Oileán an Chaca, is defined by a poorly preserved drystone wall (Wth 1.35-1.9m, H 1.5m). In SW corner there is a subcircular structure (D 6m int.), possibly a hut. At NNW corner are the remains of a small quay, and traces of a natural causeway lie to W. (Layard 1897, 376; Robinson 1985, 15) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'.
