- GA006-055 Enclosure
Description
In grassland. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1930) as a large circular platform (D c. 90m) delimited from S through W to NNE by a single line of hachures, with traces of a possible external fosse shown at NW. What is visible is a poorly preserved circular enclosure (D 40m) defined from ENE through S to NW by a low scarp (H 1.1m). From NW through N to NE, a low earthen bank appears to overlie its line before veering off to E. Slight traces of a fosse are discernible from S to NW, and the shadow of a possible outer bank is visible outside it. An enclosure (GA006-005001-) is associated. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
- GA006-055001 Enclosure
Description
Associated with an enclosure (GA006-055----). Marked on 1st ed. of OS map as a small circular enclosure (D c. 15m); no visible surface trace survives. Due to considerable changes in the field boundaries between 1st and 3rd (1930) eds., it is difficult to plot its location in relation to the larger enclosure shown on the latter ed. or to the remains visible on the ground. However, from the evidence provided by 1st ed. map, it would appear to have been situated in NW quadrant of the larger enclosure. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
- GA006-056 Quarry
Description

- GA006-057 Crannog
Description
In marshland, formerly part of Corralough Lake. A poorly preserved circular artifipial platform (D c. 25m, H 0.6m) with a V-shaped depression in the interior. A line of pine trees grow along the perimeter. According to OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 69), the name derives from 'Nuala na meadoige Nuala of the Knife a celebrated heroine'. There is another possible lake dwelling (GA006-060----) c. 200m to E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
