  Description

  On the crest of a ridge in undulating grassland. When visited by the Survey in 1982, this monument consisted of the W half of a circular rath (diam. 42.5m), which was cut by a road from NNW to SSE. It was defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. In 1990 the monument was bulldozed during land-clearance operations and no visible surface trace survives. However, its outline is clearly visible on the OSi digitalglobe aerial photograph. There is a souterrain (GA095-038001-) in the SW quadrant of the interior. • GA095-038001 Souterrain
  Description

  Within the SW quadrant of a levelled rath (GA095-038----). This well-preserved drystone-built souterrain (L >14.3m) consists of three subrectangular chambers linked by two creeps. Access is gained at the partially collapsed E end of a chamber (L 2.3m; Wth 1.3m) that appears to mark the original entrance to the souterrain as crude steps lead down into it. It runs ENE-WSW and is filled with rubble. A simple creep (L 0.7m; Wth 0.5m; H 0.4m) at its W end leads to the 2nd chamber (L 4.6m; Wth 1.7m; H 1.6m) running NW-SE. An air vent is evident in its S side-wall. A drop-hole creep (L 2.2m), approached by four steps, at the NW end of this chamber leads to the 3rd chamber (5.5m; Wth 1.9m; H 1.9m) running NE-SW. • GA095-038002 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  On a N-facing slope in undulating grassland. This natural spring well is defined by a D-shaped drystone-built chamber (0.75m N-S; 0.7m E-W) which is set 4.5m below ground level. On inspection, the well (D 1m) was accessed from a stile on the roadside, via a series of stone steps running E-W for 3.75m then turning at a right angle down a sloping drystone-built passage (6m N-S) with a lintelled roof. The entrance to the passage was covered by a large limestone capstone (L 1.2m; Wth 1m). Some coins found on the step nearest to the water were the only evidence to suggest that this is a holy well.   Description

  On a S-facing slope in undulating grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (69m N-S; 66m E-W) defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter is visible at W and N. The bank is overgrown with bramble and hawthorn and several gaps in it appear to be modern. A bullaun lies c. 100m to the E.   Description

  On a rise in undulating pastureland. Circular rath (diam. 24m), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The outer bank is overlain by a field wall.   Description

  On a W-facing slope overlooking Galway Bay, now within a modern housing estate. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) named 'Raheennagower'.   Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1800, having lower single-bay extension to east end. Pitched thatched roofs, and low painted rendered chimneystack. Painted smooth rendered walls having painted quoins and plinth course. Square-headed window openings with painted stone sills and timber sliding sash windows, two being six-over-six pane and other being two-over-two pane. Square-headed timber battened door. Wrought-iron pedestrian gate to front garden, set between rubble limestone piers in rubble limestone boundary wall.
