  Description

  In low-lying grassland. Poorly preserved conjoined rath. The N enclosure (E-W 31m, N-S 27m), subcircular in plan, is defined by a bank, and by a quarried-out scarp from NE to SE. The S enclosure (ENE-WSW 30m), irregular in plan, is defined by a bank except at NW and SE where a scarp forms the enclosing element. There is a souterrain (GA015-047001-) in its interior.   Description

  Within S enclosure of a conjoined ringfort (GA015-047001-). The visible remains comprise a long linear hollow, a short oval hollow and a partially intact chamber, all running on a NNW-SSE axis (L c. 33m). The intact section is just inside the ringfort bank at NNW, where a modern breach, now almost completely choked, allows a view of drystone-built side-walls and a lintelled roof. According to the landowner, this intact section of the souterrain continues towards NNW for a further c. 4m before terminating in a squared-off end wall.   Description

  On a gentle rise in flat pastureland, the Kilshanvy River flows by to E. Poorly preserved rectilinear enclosure (E-W 33m), the S half of which has been completely quarried away. It is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The fosse and outer bank survive only at NW. A gap at W may mark the original entrance. There is a CBG (GA028-032001-) in the interior.   Description

  Within the interior of moated site (GA028-032----), the S section of which has been totally destroyed by quarrying. The CBG occupies the entire extant section; it comprises an irregularly shaped area (E-W 31m, N-S 14.5m) within which numerous small set stones indicate graves oriented N-S. • GA028-033 Church
  Description

  On roadside at SE end of a small house cluster, it stands 125m SE of a crossing point of the Kilshanvy River. There is no trace of a graveyard. The remains comprise a rectangular medieval church (E-W; L 14.3m, Wth 6.14m) in fair condition. Though ivy-clad, both gables and S wall stand to their original height but most of N wall is rebuilt The interior was used as a handball court (Topgr. Files, NMI), the plastering for which obscures much of the walls. The original doorway, now robbed, lies towards W end of S Wall. There is also a recently blocked doorway in W gable, its crude jambs having a slightly trabeate form but it is probably a later insertion. The E gable contains a single-light pointed window with chamfered jambs and there are two single-light windows in S wall. There is also a single-light window at W end of S wall, at 1st-floor level. When coupled with the beam slots visible above W doorway, this indicates the former presence of a loft at this end. An old watermill mill stands 100m to N.   Description

  In W half of a ringfort (GA028-036----). Marked and named 'Cave' on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map. What is visible is a stony nettle-filled L-shaped hollow (L 24.5m, Wth 3.5m) up to 1m in depth. Its long axis (L 14.5m) runs E-W, and turns sharply to S at E end, continuing on a N-S axis (L 10m).   On a rise in rolling grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular cashel (N-S 42.5m, E-W 38.8m) defined by a drystone wall from N through E to SW; no visible surface trace survives elsewhere. A field wall overlies the enclosing element from N to NE. Gap at ESE could be original. Within the interior are the remains of two grassed-over stone structures: (a) circular (D 2.7m), and (b) subrectangular (N-S; L 3.4m, Wth 2m) in plan. Probably the remains of houses.   On a rise in gently undulating grassland. Very poorly preserved subcircular cashel (E-W 36m, N-S 33m) defined from SSE to SW by a grassed-over drystone wall overlain by a field wall. Apart from a straight 9m length of wall, just inside the limits of the monument at W, no visible surface trace of the enclosing element survives from SW to NW. • Kilshanvy Mill, mill (water), 1770–1850 · Regional interest
  Description

  Fresstanding mill comprising three-bay two-storey block at west, built c.1780, slightly higher three-bay three-storey block of c.1830 to east, latter having three-storey return with attic. Mass concrete lean-to structure to centre of façade. Pitched roofs, roofless to west block and remains of slated roof to east block. Rendered walls to front, and squared limestone blocks elsewhere. Half-moon window above first floor of west block. Weir on river and mill race leads to wheel pit at east end of structure.
