  Description

• KE106-081002 Children's burial ground
  Description

  Calluragh Burial Ground: This site is incorrectly positioned on the first edition of the OS map, but the mistake is rectified on the second edition. It is situated in rough pasture, overlooking Cove Harbour to E, and survives as a roughly oval-shaped enclosure with internal dimensions of 27m N-S x 22.6m E-W. It is heavily overgrown and the original enclosing wall is almost completely obscured; its upper courses appear to have been partly rebuilt in recent times. The interior of the site is raised by an average of 2m above external ground level. Its uneven surface is dotted with low sod-covered mounds and a number of upright grave-markers. • KE106-121 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Not marked on the OS maps, this site is located on a small knoll in rough pasture overlooking Cove Harbour to SE. It is known locally as a 'Caher', though there is no trace of an enclosing wall and no evidence to suggest the former presence of one. The site at present consists of the overgrown foundations, 1.3m wide, of a rectangular house (KE106-121001-) which measures 6m x 5.2m internally. The inner facing of the foundations is formed by a row of slabs set on edge, averaging .75m long, while the outer facing, where discernible, appears as roughtly coursed masonry. An entrance, defined by two upright slabs set .8m apart, survives at S. The house is bisected by a field wall and the E half of its interior is filled with stone debris. An entrance to an underground passage, probably a souterrain (KE106-121002-), is locally reputed to occur at the S side of the house. This is no longer visible. • KE106-154 Standing stone
  Description

  In pasture overgrown with briars, bracken and gorse, the long axis of this standing stone is aligned NE/SW. Sub-rectangular in plan (its sides at ground level measure: SW- 0.4m, SE - 0.8m, NE - 0.55m and NW – 0.88m) and 1m high, its sides are parallel for c. 0.6m before tapering to a point. Ground level is slightly lower at SE than at NW. Good views to SE towards Knocknasullig (also known locally as the Sugarloaf). Derelict two-storey house 25m to SSE.
