  Description

  In pasture, on a W-facing slope, immediately W of a stream. A circular area (31.5m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.52m) E-S and by a scarp (H 0.9m) S-E. Possible stone facing is evident on the internal face of the bank along the SE arc. There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 2m) at SE. The interior, which slopes down to the S, is raised slightly above the external ground level. Mature coniferous trees grow in the interior. Stones have been dumped on the scarp at SW and also in the N and NW quadrants of the interior. There is a possible hut site (KE058-077001-) at the centre.   Within the centre of a rath (KE058-077----). The remains of a possible circular hut (c. 7m E-W) defined by a stone wall (T c. 1m; H 0.4m) which comprises loose stones.   Description

  In pasture, on a W-facing slope. A roughly oval area (32m E-W; 26m N-S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.45m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.7m) which is low and denuded. The bank is covered with stones which may be from field clearance. The interior, which is covered in conifers, slopes from the E down to a break of slope in the W sector. There is a large rock outcrop in the NE quadrant. Loose stones are scattered in the interior, especially in the NE quadrant. A possible souterrain (KE058-082001-) is in the N sector and a possible hut site (KE058-082002-) is in the centre. There is a possible entrance through the bank at SE.   Description

  In a rath (KE058-082----). A depression (c. 0.8m N-S; c. 0.8m E-W; D c. 0.3m) in the N quadrant of the rath may mark the location of an opening into this possible souterrain. A possible lintel (min. L 0.5m; min. T 0.1m), covering a cavity beneath, is partially exposed in the depression. The cavity appears to have filled up with earth and stones. The ground level drops to the W of the depression. There is a possible hut site (KE058-082002-) c. 6m to the S.   Description

  Within a rath (KE058-082----). The remains of a possible rectangular hut (5.6m E-W; min. 3.2m N-S) defined by a wall (H c. 0.5m) along the W, N and E sides. The wall consists of large sandstone boulders. There is a possible souterrain (KE058-082001-) c. 6m to the N. • KE058-083 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on the S-facing slope of a low hill. A circular area (diam. 34m) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.75m; int. H 0.72m; ext. H 0.85m) S-SE and by a scarp (H 1.5m) SE-S. Intermittent stone-facing is visible on the internal face of the bank NE-ESE and along the SSW arc and on the external face of the bank S-WSW. The bank is damaged in places by cattle and there are gaps in it along the E, S and W arcs. It is partially covered with overgrowth and some large trees grow along the E arc. The interior, which is covered by overgrowth and slopes down to the S, is poached by cattle. The entrance (Wth 3m) at N is slightly damaged but the bank terminal at the W side of the entrance is intact. This is probably the rath, referred to in the 1840s as 'Clashnagurraun Fort', in the centre of the townland (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 2, 7).   Description

  In pasture, on a low hillock. A roughly circular area (diam. c. 28m) defined by an arc of an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.6m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.95m) E-SSW and by a scarp elsewhere. The interior slopes from the centre down to the S and N. A rock and rabbit burrows were noted in the centre of the interior. There is a possible souterrain (KE058-098001-) in the interior. The rath is indicated as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on the 1846 OS 6-inch map and as an oval enclosure (c. 25m NW-SE; c. 20m NE-SW), open at NE, on the 1894 OS 6-inch map.   Description

  In pasture, built into a W-facing slope. Random rubble walls encase an earthen core. The front (Wth 5.5m; H c. 4m) of the kiln faces W. The central arched recess has roughly shaped voussoirs. The top of the funnel is indicated by a depression. The kiln is covered with overgrowth.   Description

  In pasture, on a gentle S-facing slope. A circular area (diam. 33m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.35m) which is tangentially abutted at NE by a road. Recent stone facing has been added to the external face of the bank NW-S. The bank has been disturbed at NE by the planting of shrubs and at N by the erection of a lamp post. Building debris has been dumped along the SE bank. The interior is level and has been planted with trees. A narrow break (Wth 0.5m) at SW is blocked by a stone.   Description

  In pasture, at the top of a steep E-facing slope, overlooking the valley of the Deenagh River. This rath is levelled but is evident as a slight concave depression (diam. c. 30m) at the edge of a natural fall of ground down to the floor of the river valley. It was recorded in the 1840s as a large rath in the SE end of the townland (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 25). There is a souterrain (KE059-011001-) in the interior. This rath is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) in a small field whose boundaries abut the N, S and W arcs of the rath. A second rath (KE059-012----) lies c. 250m to the ESE on the opposite side of the river.   Description

  In a rath (KE059-011----). There are no visible remains of this souterrain. It was recorded in the 1840s as 'Clashnagurraun Cavern' and described as 'very spacious [and] having several apartments' (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 25). Its entrance was described as being 'in the centre of the Fort' (ibid.). It is named 'Cave' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map.   Description

  In Kilcummin village. A T-shaped former church (long axis E-W) with transepts and a shallow chancel at the E end, now used for storage. Sacristy added to the E end of the chancel. Church lit by tall round-headed windows with brick surrounds. Exterior rendered with exposed stone buttresses at regular intervals. Bellcote on top of the W gable. Wide ope inserted in the S wall.
