• KE058-068 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a W-facing slope, in undulating countryside. A roughly circular area (30m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.75m; ext. H 0.8m) which is denuded in places. The interior is entirely covered by overgrowth. This is probably the rath, called 'Lissheenamuck Fort', which was mentioned in the 1840s as being in the S end of Cloonteens and 'about 4 chains East of the road leading from Killarney to Castle Island' (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 20).   Description

  In pasture, on a N-facing slope, near the summit of a low hill. This rath is not visible at ground level. It was indicated as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on the 1846 and 1894 OS 6-inch maps. In the 1840s it was described as being 'tilled' and was called Lissheenmeel Fort (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 21).
