  Description

  This circular enclosure would not appear to have been marked on the 1841-42 OS map, although it is marked on the 1916 map. This area seems to have been heavily forested in the past, though not now, and no surface trace remains of the site The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 544. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. • KE022-001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On level terrain, in the grounds of Crotta Demesne. A roughly circular area (diam. 39m N-S; 36m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (ext. H 1.7m; int. H 0.6m) and a fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.5m). There are breaks in bank at NNE (Wth 4.5m) and NE (Wth 4.5m) respectively. The level interior appears to have been used as a kitchen garden, apart from several large dead trees situated on the bank, it is largely clear of vegetation. A small roughly circular earthen feature (diam. c. 4.4m) is situated against the internal bank face at E. Compiled by: Matt Kelleher Date of upload: 28 January 2014

  Description

  Detached two-bay single-storey gate lodge with dormer attic, built c. 1850, originally with lancet arch openings to north gable end. Openings later remodelled. Pitched slate roof with added cement gable parapets. Random rubble stone walls with fragments of render. Pointed arch blocked openings in north gable and one in south gable. Red brick surrounded to first floor window. Later openings formed in west wall. Remains of rubble stone-built walls, built c. 1850, to south-west possibly originally part of walled garden. Crotto House demolished in latter part of twentieth century.
