  Description

  This site is depicted on the first edition of the OS map as a pair of conjoined enclosures. It survives as a single, unenclosed, subcircular area. Located in dense woodland, it was described in the late nineteenth century as '. . . the site of a burial ground formerly utilised for the interment of young children, but now disused . . .'(OSRNB), and as a cillín in the IFC Schools' Collection. The burial area measures 20m N-S x 25m E-W and is partly divided by a roughly constructed wall of boulders and earth. This is 12.5m long, .5m high and 1m wide and runs from the site's E edge to its centre. A quantity of loose stone is scattered throughout the site's NE quadrant, where a number of N-S and NW-SE rows of uninscribed grave-markers occur. These average .35m high, the tallest example being .55m high. Close by, at NW, is a cut headstone inscribed with the date 1878. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 998.   Description

  Freestanding cruciform-plan double-height Victorian Italianate style Roman Catholic church, built c. 1865, designed by Philip Hardwicke. Comprising three-bay double-height nave, single-bay double-height transepts to north and to south elevations having single-bay single-storey lean-to projecting open porch to south, single-bay three-stage part engaged tower to north on a square plan, three-bay double-height chancel to west gable end having two-bay single-storey lean-to sacristy projection to north-west corner. Tower renovated 1892. Pitched slate roofs with artificial slate patching, clay ridge tiles, cast-iron gutters and downpipes, sandstone ashlar projecting eaves. Rubble stone walls with original buttered mortar joints, sandstone quoins with cement replacements at lower levels, cement pointing to tower with brick quoins below cement. Round-headed lancets with sandstone surrounds. Paired lancets to nave. Round-headed doorways with sandstone surrounds and limestone steps. Cement render surround to tower doorway with screeded steps. Chancel re-ordered to interior. Open-truss roof. Round arches to transepts on circular columns. Stained glass panels to chancel and west wall and to north of nave. Marble font to south transept. Quarry tiled floor beneath seating.

  Description

  Five-arch rubble stone road bridge over Sneem river, dated 1810, with rubble stone V-cutwaters. Rubble parapets with stone on edge coping. Irregularly sized arches with rubble voussoirs.

  Description

  Terraced three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1875, renovated in late twentieth century to ground floor. Pitched artificial slate roof with cast-iron gutter and downpipe. Painted ruled-and-lined rendered walls with bull's head moulding at first floor. Painted sills to paired two-over-two pane sliding sash windows to ground floor having arched panes to upper sliding sash. Painted sills to two-over-two pane sliding sash windows at first floor. Square-headed doorway with limestone threshold, overlight and timber boarded double-leaf door. Detached two-bay single-storey rubble stone-built outbuilding, built c. 1875, to south-west.

  Description

  Terraced three-bay two-storey house with half-dormer attic, built c. 1890, renovated and extended to rear to south-west in latter part of twentieth century with two-bay single-storey iron-clad return, and timber pilaster shopfront inserted to ground floor. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered gable chimneystacks, half-dormers with curvilinear bargeboard, cast-iron gutters and downpipes which become internal. Painted rendered walls with render string course at second floor level where downpipes become internal. Painted sills to timber two-over-two pane sliding sash windows to upper floors. Ground floor openings remodelled with timber display windows and glazed double leaf door. Street frontage.
