- KE068-011 Barrow - ring-barrow
Description
In pasture, on a SE-facing slope, with views S to The Paps of Dana. A circular area (9.65m NE-SW; 8.85m NW-SE) enclosed by a fosse (Wth 1.4m; D 0.1m) and an external bank (Wth 2.72m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.5m). The bank is incorporated into a linear field boundary at S. The entrance, with a causeway, is at E (Wth 2.5m), and at W (Wth 3.5m). A linear bank (Wth 1m; H 0.5m) extends (c. 14m) to the N from the exterior at NW. Coniferous trees grow in and around the ring-barrow. It was recorded in the 1840s as 'Lisheenatumpaun' in the centre of which was a 'stone lying flat on the surface of the earth' (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 2, 36). It is probably the 'lios' referred to in the 1940s (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry) on Michael Kelliher's land. Another ring-barrow (KE068-011001-) lies c. 20m to the NE.
