• KE005-041001 Children's burial ground
  Description

  This site is situated in poor pastureland. It is marked on the 1841-42 OS maps as a 'Childrens Burial Ground', Also, on the first edition map it appears as a circular enclosure (KE005-041002-) which is cut in half by a fieldbank running in a N-S direction. Today it has been much levelled and only a small semi-circular mound, measuring c 8m x 8.5m internally, remains. On the W side of the fieldbank is another small earthen mound which measures internally 2m x 3m. Quite a large amount of stones are visible. According to the landowner (Mr Kissane), a small stone-lined grave was unearthed in the N sector of the enclosure. However, it contained no remains, and no surface trace of it can be seen today. • KE005-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 23m N-S, 13.4m E-W Situated on rising land, this site has a commanding view of the surrounding countryside. This univallate rath is roughly D-shaped and is enclosed to the N through W to S by a wide, steep fosse. The enclosing earthen bank is raised .4m above the interior and 1.7m above the fosse. The fosse measures 3m in width and 1m below the height of the surrounding land and curves into the S exterior end of the enclosing bank. About 22m E is an earthen arc bank that contains a gap 11m in width. This bank curves in towards the main section. This outer protecting bank is 3.6m in width and .6m in height. The interior of the site slopes S with the land and is at a higher level than the surrounding land. Two lines of ridges running in a N-S direction lie in the interior.
