  Description

  In rough pasture, on a SW-facing slope with views to Mangerton Mountain. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) is visible on an aerial photograph (OSAP, 2122-3) taken in 1989. It is not visible at ground level due to dense overgrowth of ferns; the ground in the area of the possible rath is uneven. A low bank was evident along the W arc during a subsequent site inspection (Quinn 2002).   Description

  In undulating pasture, with views W to Killarney and Macgillycuddy's Reeks. A roughly circular area (diam. 22m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.4m; int. H 1m; ext. H 0.8m) partially obscured by trees and bushes and with breaks at NE and SW. The interior is in pasture and there is a multiple-stone circle (KE067-020002-) at the centre. A limited excavation in 1998 revealed the presence of a steep-sided fosse (Wth 3m at top, 1m at base; D 2.5m) directly inside the enclosing bank and also confirmed that the enclosure is prehistoric in date (O'Brien 2000, 94-5; 2004, 323-38). A standing stone pair (KE067-020004-) is c. 14m to the S. • KE067-020002 Stone circle - embanked
  Description

  In undulating pasture, with views W to Killarney and Macgillycuddy's Reeks. This stone circle (int. diam. c. 4m) lies in the centre of an earthen enclosure (int. diam. c. 20m) (KE067-020001-). The stone circle, which is comprised of seven stones (L 0.5-1.2m; T 0.4-1m; H 0.9-1.2m), was regarded by Ó Nualláin (1984a, 25, no. 38) as typical of the Cork-Kerry series, with the stones decreasing in height as they appraoch the axial stone at SW. A recent interpretation by O'Brien (2004, 329), however, concluded that the identification of the axial stone and the associated orientation are open to question. The enclosure is defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.4m; int. H 1m; ext. H 0.8m), partially obscured by trees and bushes, and has breaks at NE and SW. A limited excavation in 1998 revealed the presence of a steep-sided fosse (Wth 3m at top, 1m at base; D 2.5m) directly inside the enclosing bank and also confirmed that the enclosure (KE067-020001-) is prehistoric in date (O'Brien 2000, 94-5; 2004, 323-38).   Description

  In undulating pasture, with views W to Killarney and Macgillycuddy's Reeks. Two upright stones, aligned E-W. The E stone (L 2.2m; T 1.52m; H 2.3m) is 2.22m from the W stone (L 1.3m; T 1.11m; H 2.15m). Indeterminate surface scribing (KE067-020003-) and a possible date of 1824 are evident on the surface of the W stone, which also has glacial striations. An embanked stone circle (KE067-020002-) lies c. 14m to the N. • KE067-069 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In the 1940s a big rath 'surrounded by a double fence' was recorded 'about 300 yards to the north west of Lissyviggeen school' and on the edge of the large two-storey house [Fort William Ho.] of the O'Keeffe family (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). While there are no visible remains of this rath, the present owners of Fort William Ho. have a strong family tradition that there was a rath on the top of the ridge immediately to the NE of the house and consequently that area is not cultivated. • KE067-148 Enclosure
  Description

  In rough, generally level pasture, densely overgrown with vegetation across large areas. Small, roughly oval clearing (dims. c. 8m NE-SW; c. 6m NW-SE) visible at this location; ground surface here has a slight depression. A small oval cropmark is visible on aerial photography (OSi 2005). Corner of field boundary adjacent c. 5m to W. A large oval area is evident upon aerial photography, adjacent to NE . This is a distinct oval rise covered in dense rushes, thistles and ragworth. At ground level, it appears to be a natural rise, however the distinct outline evident upon aerial photography suggests a definitive cropmark.   Description

  In improved, generally level pasture with natural surface undulations. Barely traceable arc (dims. 18m E-W; 10m N-S) of levelled bank (Wth c. 10m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.15m) WNW->N->E. Deeply disturbed by modern farming practices and incorporated into field as pasture. Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as the cropmark of an enclosure. Arc of bank noted during field visit corresponds to roughly circular anomaly traceable upon modern aerial photography (Bing 2013).   Description

  In NW corner of a field, immediately to N of the N22 road. The souterrain is stone-built and consists of two chambers linked by a slightly bowed flagstone-capped creepway (c. L 4m; Wth 1m). Two of the five flagstones have collapsed. The NW chamber (diam. c. 1.3m; H 1.5m) is the smaller of the two and the SE chamber (diam. c. 3m; H 1.7m) is not accessible via the lintelled rectangular creep hole due to the build up of ground level.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey triple-gable-fronted Gothic Revival style house, built c. 1840, possibly incorporating fabric of earlier house, pre-1776. Comprising single-bay two-storey gabled advanced bay to centre having single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch to ground floor with battlemented parapet and single-bay two-storey gabled flanking end bays with single-storey canted bay windows. Single-bay side elevations with single-storey canted oriel window to north-west elevation. Two-bay two-storey return to rear to north-east. Pitched slate roofs with rendered octagonal chimneystacks, projecting eaves and verges, decorative openwork bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with hood mouldings to ground floor and porch. Limestone sills to openings. Bay windows to sides with slate roofs. Multiple pane timber sliding sash windows at ground floor. Replacement windows at first floor. Gateway, built c. 1840, to north-east comprising four limestone ashlar piers with acorn finials having cast-iron gates.
