Description
In pasture, at the E end of a ridge. A circular mound (diam. 20.8m; H 0.55m) defined by a fosse (Wth c. 4m) and an external bank (Wth 7.45m; int. H 1m; ext. H 1.35m). The W half of the mound appears to be slightly flatter on top than the E half and cultivation ridges (Wth c. 1m) were noted in the N quadrant. The bank is overgrown in places and denuded by cattle. The entrance (Wth c. 2m) is at E where there is also a causeway across the fosse. The bank is slightly denuded on either side of the entrance. A rock lies in the middle of the entrance, in line with the external edge the bank. There is also a cattle gap in the bank at W. Some rocks have been dumped into the fosse at N. A NE-SW field boundary may have been incorporated into the bank at NE. A second field boundary, on an E-W axis, extends to W from the bank at NW. There is a limekiln (KE059-044----) c. 80m to the NE. Description
In pasture, on an E-facing slope. A mid/late 19th-century limekiln built of random rubble. The front wall faces E. The central arched recess is of roughly shaped voussoirs with a well shaped keystone and is partly blocked by dumped material. There is a lower inner arch. A horizontal ledge crosses the face of the kiln above the recess. The ramp at the rear of the kiln has been truncated and is retained by a stone wall. A ring-barrow (KE059-017---) is c. 80m to the SW. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
