It is 54 km in length and travels from Kinnegad 110 kV substation in Killaskillen (County Meath) and traverses southeast where a short loop into Dunfirth 110 kV substation in Dunfirth (County Kildare) exists. The line then continues southeast where it terminates at Rinawade 110kV substation in Rinawade Lower (County Kildare). The OHL has a total of 249no. supporting structures. Within the functional area of Kildare County Council, there is 30.66 km of the existing OHL circuit, with 140 no. structures. Within the functional area of Meath County Council there is 23.16 km, with 107 no. structures, and within the functional area of Offaly County Council there is 0.42 km, with 2 no. structures. Separate planning applications will be lodged with Meath County Council and Offaly County Council. The proposed development within Co. Kildare will comprise: the replacement (“restringing”) of the existing OHL circuit conductor wires with a new higher capacity conductor between structure numbers 93 - 153, 224 - 226, and 240 - 247; the strengthening of tower foundations at 9no. locations; the strengthening of towers (i.e., member replacement) at 14no. locations; the painting of towers at 15no. locations; shear block remedial works of towers at 1no. location; the replacement of polesets at 43no. locations, with similar structures.   Description

  Description

  Stands to E of centre in a graveyard (KD003-014002-). The ivy covered W end of a rectangular structure (int. dims. max. traceable L 10.1m E-W; Wth 4.9m N-S) is built of very mixed and randomly coursed, small, squared blocks and thin flags. The W gable wall (H 3m; T 0.85m) is missing its apex but the sides and sill of a window embrasure survive (Wth 0.4-1m), and a 17th century O'Kelly memorial slab (KD003-014003-) is built into the wall.   Description

  Located on the roadside in gently undulating pastureland. It contains a ruined church (KD003-014001-), and is still used for burial. A sub-rectangular area (dims. L c. 58m E-W; Wth c. 35m) is enclosed by a low, mortared stone wall, skirted by an internal path.   Description

  Built into the inner face of the W gable wall of a church (KD003-014001-). According to Fitzgerald (1896, 448-51) the rectangular memorial slab (dims. L c. 1.2m; Wth c. 0.65m) was dug up during the erection of the 18thC 'More-O'Ferrall' burial vault and subsequently built into the wall of the church. An incised Latin and English inscription, dated 1684, is dedicated to 'Barnabas O'Kelly' and there is an O'Kelly crest and coat of arms. The inscription is now barely legible.   Description

  In gently undulating pastureland. A sub-rectangular area (dims. L 23m NNE-SSW; Wth 11m) is defined along the S and W by a low earthen bank (H 0.8m) and along the N and E by a laneway and road. There is a low, triangular mound (dims. max L 4m; Wth 2m; H. 0.6m) at the centre. There are no visible grave markers. The base of a cross (KD003-015002-) lies inside the enclosing bank at S.   In the S sector of a children's burial ground (KD003-015001-). An undressed, roughly rectangular, limestone block (dims. L 0.8m; Wth 0.68m; H 0.4m) has a neat, rectangular, mortice at its centre (dims. L 0.22m; Wth 0.30m; D 0.17m). A cross-base and shaft fragment (KD003-016----) stand c. 600m to the NE.
