  Description

  Approximately 2.5km E of the medieval city of Kilkenny (KK019-026----), on a gentle S-facing slope. It is currently within Purcellsinch industrial estate and c. 20m S of the NW-SE Kilkenny to Waterford railway line. The church is associated with St Molaga or Malog, who, according to tradition, came from Wales to assist St. Patrick in his missionary work (O’Kelly 1969, 92). Described by Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 264) as the, ‘ancient parish church of Kilmologga’ with both gables gone and ‘most of the side-walls remain to a height of six or eight feet [1.8-2.4m]. In the east end of the north wall is a small window, broken on the outside, round-headed on the inside, and unmistakably Celtic…The doorway appears to have been situated towards the west end of the north wall, where a large gap now appears in the masonry. Kilmologga church is of earlier date than the Anglo-Norman Invasion, and may most probably be assigned to the 11th century’. Carrigan also mentions that the parish of Kilmologga, ‘was appropriated to the Priory of St. John, Kilkenny [KK019-026068-], sometime before the year 1300; and became merged in the parish of St. John’s, Kilkenny, at the Reformation’ (ibid.). A poorly preserved rectangular nave and chancel church (int. dims. 9m E-W x 7m N-S) constructed of roughly coursed sandstone rubble. Only a portion of the N wall of the chancel (L 5.8m; H 2.2m) and nave (L 1.3m; T 0.73m) survive; the footings of the E gable and S wall are visible but are overlain with collapsed masonry. Within the N wall of the chancel there is the embrasure of a pointed window (int. dims. 1.6m x 0.48m) and a rectangular aumbry (dims. 0.45m x 0.34m; D 0.3m) at the E end, as well as two putlog holes, one at either end of this wall.   Description

  Approximately 2.5km E of the medieval city of Kilkenny (KK019-026----), on a gentle S-facing slope. It is currently within Purcellsinch industrial estate and c. 20m S of the NW-SE Kilkenny to Waterford railway line. On the 1st (1839-40) ed. OS 6-inch map there is an irregular unenclosed area (dims. c. 47m E-W; c. 37m N-S) indicated with the medieval church (KK019-029----) in the centre. On the revised 1945-6 map no graveyard is indicated. The church survives in a ruinous condition but there is no enclosed graveyard and there are no grave markers.   Description

  On a S-facing slope, c. 90m SW of the Kilkenny to Waterford railway line and c. 300m W of a tributary of the River Nore. Indicated as a wooded circular area (diam. c. 42m) on the 1st (1839-40) ed. OS 6-inch map with a 'Turret' and on the 1945-6 revision with a 'Turret (in Ruins)'. It was located c. 170m to the rear of the 18th-century Inch House and was probably a tree-ring, a designed landscape feature associated with Inch House demesne. Inch House is now demolished. Both the tree-ring and turret (KK019-035002-) were removed during the construction of Purcellsinch industrial estate and a large factory now occupies the site.   Description

  On a S-facing slope, c. 90m SW of the Kilkenny to Waterford railway line and c. 300m W of a tributary of the River Nore. Indicated as a 'Turret' within a tree-ring (KK019-035001-) on the 1st (1839-40) ed. OS 6-inch map and as a 'Turret (in Ruins)' on the 1945-6 revision. It was located c. 170m to the rear of the 18th-century Inch House and is described by Craig (1973, 106) as, 'a two-storey turret, with gothick features, possibly dating from the mid-18th century'. This turret would have been a folly on the Inch House demesne. Inch House is now demolished. Both the tree-ring and turret (KK019-035002-) were removed during the construction of Purcellsinch industrial estate and a large factory now occupies the site. • KK019-103 Castle - ringwork
  Description

  At the S end of an N-S ridge, beyond which the ground slopes down to a stream c. 90m to the W and slopes towards the River Nore c. 400m to the S. A raised roughly round platform (diam. 40m E-W; 44m N-S; H 1-1.5m on N and E sides; H 3m gradual fall on W side) which on the S side it is enclosed by a wide flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 3.5m) and outer bank (Wth 4m; H 0.5m). The surface of the platform is relatively flat and slopes slightly to the W. There are beech trees around the edge of the platform and bushes and scrub on the N side. On the S side the beech trees are on a stepped down berm (Wth 1.5m) 0.4m lower than the edge of the platform. There has been some ground disturbance on the E side where field boundaries were removed. • Inch Saw Mills, mill (water), 1790–1810 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached eight-bay two-storey woollen mill with attic, c.1800. In use as corn mill, 1945-6. In use as saw mill, post-1946. Renovated, c.1950, with roof partly remodelled. Now in ruins. Pitched roof now gone with replacement barrel-vaulted section, c.1950, having corrugated-iron, and no rainwater goods surviving on red brick eaves. Random rubble stone walls with dressed stone quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings with red brick sills, some having red brick dressings, timber lintels, and remains of timber fittings. Square-headed door opening with lintel, and no fittings surviving. Single arch culvert over mill race with segmental arch having tooled cut-limestone voussoirs, and rubble stone soffits. Interior now derelict retaining iron mechanisms including waterwheel. Set back from road in own grounds on bank of canalised section of River Nore with overgrown grounds to site.
