• LE030-040 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the E-facing slope of a small N-S ridge with a higher drumlin c. 150m to the E. It is depicted as a subrectangular area described as a ‘Fort’ on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a subrectangular hachured feature incorporating field boundaries on the 1907 edition. This is a grass-covered circular area (diam. 57m E-W; 56m N-S) defined by an earthen bank incorporated in a field bank (Wth of base 4.6m; max. H 0.8m) SW-N, and by an external scarp (max. H 0.4m) elsewhere, although it melds into the natural slope NE-SE. A band of lush vegetation (Wth 1-2m) outside the scarp may be the remains of a fosse but there is no indication of an entrance. • LE034-007 Crannog
  Description

  Located c. 40m from the N shore of the subrectangular N part (dims c. 300-370m E-W; c. 340m N-S) of Gulladoo Lough (L c. 3km NE-SW). This is an overgrown stony island (dims 17m N-S; 12.5m E-W; H 1m) surrounded by timber stakes (max. diam. 0.2m) and planks lying at the water's edge. A stone pier is visible at SE, as is a causeway at NW. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. • LE034-009 Crannog
  Description

  Located at the mouth of the NE-SW Cullies River as it debouches into the subrectangular N part (dims c. 300-370m E-W; c. 340m N-S) of Gulladoo Lough (L c. 3km NE-SW). It was first noted from local reports by Oliver Davies in 1942 (SMR file). This is a submerged area (dims 11m x 6m) in deep water consisting of a series of large hewn timber posts (max. L 2m; max. diam. 0.25m), mostly lying prone. The centre is of stone, and it is probably an unfinished crannog. It is only visible when the level of the lake is exceptionally low, and its precise location cannot be provided.
