• LI038-018002 Moated site
  Description

  In marshy pasture. Rectangular area (42.6m E-W; 32.6m N-S) defined by scarped edge (H 0.75m) with external fosse (D c. 0.5m), slight counter-scarp bank (ext. H c. 0.3m) SE->SW. Immediately on E side is similar rectangular area (40m N-S; 24.5m E-W) defined by scarped edge (ext. H 0.55m); both S sides of W and E enclosures roughly in line. Fosse of W enclosure conjoined to E side of E enclosure; (5.7m from top-of-scarp to top-of-scarp). Immediately to N of E enclosure is another rectangular area (15m N-S; 25m E-W) defined by scarped edge (ext. H 0.45m) to W and N and by field fence to E which also skirts scarp on E side of east area. Low irregular undulations to W of side may be remains of associated features.   In level marshy pasture. Circular area (diam. 22m) defined by scarped edge (H 1.4m; Wth 1.7m) with external waterlogged fosse (D 0.9m; Wth 2.1m). Large boulder lies in fosse at SW. • LI038-021 Children's burial ground
  Description

  In pasture, atop low ridge in otherwise undulating terrain. Site is shown as unenclosed ovoid area (c. 20m x c. 10m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map on E side of depression. This depression is roughly circular area (58m N-S; 56.6m E-W) which slopes down unevenly towards centre (D 4m) and is covered by rough pasture. It appears to be the result of surface quarrying for stone. A field boundary runs along top edge of depression SW->ENE. There is no surface trace of burial plots on E side of depression. However, the corner of a stone-built structure remains atop scarp at ESE. This consists of a cut sandstone block which appears to be a quoin stone, and some very fragmentary walling attached to it. An irregularly-shaped weathered stone (H 0.65m; Wth 0.57m; D 0.25m, ) stands c 6m NNE of this structure. This has a circular hole (diam. 0.13m) drilled through it slightly off-centre.   Description

  In meadow, on low-lying marshy ground, surrounded by recent forest plantation A rectangular area around the site has been fenced-off and no trees planted within it. Roughly circular area (18.2m N-S; 16.6m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 0.6m; Wth 1.2m). Entire site is covered by tall meadow but interior appears to be level and featureless.   In pasture, 260m N of townland boundary with Ballyguileataggle. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Monument visible as circular enclosure on aerial photograph (ASIAP ) taken 04/03/2006. Levelled monument visible in NE corner of field as the cropmark of circular-shaped area (diam. c. 21m) intersected at N by a post-1700 field boundary running E-W on OSi orthophotograph taken between 2005-12 and on Google Earth orthoimage dated 28/06/2018.
