• LI018-064 Cliff-edge fort
  Description

  On a low ridge running along the E bank of a stream, in generally marshy terrain. A roughly D-shaped area (26m N-S; 18m E-W) enclosed NW->SW by an earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.9m), with an external fosse (D 0.4m; Wth 1.6m) NW->NE. The relatively straight W side is defined by a natural scarp (H 2m) forming the E bank of the stream. The enclosing bank is very low at SE (Wth 4m). The interior is level and covered by short grass and rushes. A similar enclosure lies directly across the stream to the SW (LI018-091---). • LI018-065 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Atop E-W ridge, in area of mixed pasture and marshland. Circular area (21.5m N-S; 22m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5m; Wth at top 2.2m) with external fosse (D 0.35m; Wth 1.6m). Interior slopes down gently to SE, and is covered in tall grass and rushes. In NE quadrant is depression (1.5m E-W; 3m N-S; D 0.35m) covered in rushes. Area immediately W, NW and SW of enclosure criss-crossed by recently cut field drains.   Description

  In low-lying area of mixed pasture and marshland. Roughly rectangular raised area (30.5m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.75m; ext. H 1.45m) WSW->NE, which is elsewhere reduced to low rise. External fosse (D 0.15m; Base Wth. 2m) NW->NE. Interior and enclosing element covered in tall grass and rushes.   In gently undulating pasture. Roughly rectangular area (24.5m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.8m) with external fosse (D 0.45m; Base Wth. 3.3m) and outer/counterscarp bank (H 0.6m) at NNE. To NW bank has eroded to a low scarp. Interior level and marshy.   Description

  In gently undulating pasture. Circular area (30.6m N-S; 30.6m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.5m) with external fosse (D 0.5m; Wth 1.5m). Causeway entrance (Wth 4m) at E; cattle breaks at ENE, NE and SW. Interior level and under grass. Linear extension of fosse to N (L 23.7m; D 0.35m; Wth 2.2m) with low earthen bank along each side (H 0.2m), terminates at E-W field boundary. Similar profiled extension of fosse to S (L 30m) but following gentle S curve. Extending N from close to SE corner of enclosure is low earthen bank (L 54m; H 0.25m; Wth 1m); at S end this meets similar low earthen bank (L 15m) travelling E-W, from which another similar bank travels S (L 28m) slightly to W of line of former bank.   In undulating pasture. Circular area (31m N-S; 31.2m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.7m) with broad shallow external fosse (D 0.25m; Wth 5m), and with external bank (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.25m) S->W. Causeway entrance at E (Wth 4m). Interior level and under grass. Shallow linear extension of fosse (L 31m; D 0.35m; Wth 2.5m) to N.   Description

  In undulating pasture. Circular area (30.4m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.8m), with external fosse (D 0.4m; Wth 1.8m) E->N, and external bank (H 0.45m; Wth 1.4m) SE->W. Enclosing element is obscured by dense overgrowth NE->SE and SW->W. Narrow break (Wth 1m) in bank at NNE. Interior, under grass, slopes down gently to W.   In undulating pasture, on gentle N-facing slope. Monument, depicted as an embanked circular enclosure on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been partially levelled. However, it is still apparent as a circular area (26m N-S; 26m E-W) defined S->SE by a scarped edge (H 1m; Wth 6m); no enclosing element evident SE->S. Interior level and entire site is under grass. • LI018-110 Standing stone
  Description

  In rough pasture, on a slight rise at the foot of a N-facing slope. An upright stone (H 1.45m; Wth 0.4m; T 0.25m), with its long axis aligned E-W. The stone now leans slightly to the W. It is roughly rectangular in profile and section, and the top surface slopes up to the E. The upper half of the stone has been polished smooth by cattle rubbing against it.
