  Description

  In gently undulating pasture, with moderate views in all directions. Located 20m S of the townland boundary with Monearla and 100m E of the townland boundary with Rineroe. Two ringforts (LI021-016/044----) lies 210m to the NNE and 325m to the S respectively. The site is depicted as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. It is not depicted on 1897 ed. OS 25-inch map suggesting that the monument was levelled between these map dates. Inspected by the ASI in 2000, when it was recorded as no surface remains visible. Possible partial cropmark of W side of enclosure bisected by post-1700 field boundary running N-S visible on OSi orthophoto taken 2005-12. The site is not visible on Google Earth orthophotos taken 28/06/2018 and 14/02/2020, although some rough surface undulations may relate to the monument. • LI021-044 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In level pasture with good to moderate views in all directions, enclosure (LI021-043----) lies 325m to N. The site is depicted as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) lined with deciduous trees on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map on the NW boundary of a historic farmstead. The site is depicted as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. 36m N-S; 34m E-W) on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map surrounded on the N, E and S side by a field boundary 1-2m outside the embankment. Inspected by the ASI in 2000, and described as a raised circular-shaped area (int. diam. c. 30m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 4.2m; H int. 0.4; ext. 1.35m) with no external fosse visible. The site is densely overgrown and is only accessible on the W side. A field boundary, depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map, runs from the SE side of the ringfort bank to the S. Monument visible as a circular-shaped overgrown tree-covered earthwork on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018 and 14/02/2020. The NW quadrant of the ringfort is visible as a tree line. • LI021-048 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On level ground to the S of a modern garden and farmyard, with moderate views in all directions. The ringfort is 40m SW of the junction with the townland boundaries of Killeen and Ballygeale, enclosure (LI021-044----) lies 580m to SW. It is depicted as a small circular field (diam. c. 30m) adjoining the SE side of a historic farmstead on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. The site is later depicted as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. 34m N-S; 29m E-W) on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map with its NW quadrant adjoining a farmstead. Inspected by the ASI in 2001, and described as a raised roughly circular area (int. diam. c. 30m), the interior of the fort was level, dry and densely overgrown at the S. The site was enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.3m; H int. 0.45; ext. 1.15m) on all sides. The external edge of the bank was disturbed by a concrete farmyard wall on the N and W, a concrete garden wall on the NE and wire fencing to the S and E, no fosse was visible. Monument visible as a circular-shaped overgrown tree-covered area on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018 and 14/02/2020.
