  In pasture, on break in NW-facing slope. Roughly circular area (23.8m N-S; 23.5m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 0.6m; Wth 5.5m). Scarp is best preserved E->WNW but becomes very indistinct WNW->N, and is distinct but low N->E (H 0.55m; Wth 4.1m).   In pasture, on gentle E-facing slope immediately below brow of low hill. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m), has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Area of S arc is possibly clipped by a recent farm passage orientated E-W. Field boundary to E has been removed.   Description

  In pasture, on gentle SW-facing slope, immediately N of stream. Circular area (26.7m N-S; 24.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.85m). Bank is best preserved N->S, but becomes scarp-like S->NW. Entrance at N (Wth 3.1m) now blocked by mound of rubble and domestic rubbish which extends N for 9.3m. A similar heap of rubble has been dumped against external bank face at NE. Level interior under rough pasture. It contain stumps of a number of mature trees; site located within demesne of Riddlestown Park and shown covered by trees on 1923 OS 6-inch map.   Description

  In pasture, on SE-facing slope. Roughly circular area (34m N-S; 36m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 1.4m), best preserved WSW->ENE. Bank has an external dry-stone facing (H 0.8m), similar to field boundary which abuts it at NNE. Another field boundary abuts enclosure at SSW. A slightly raised farm-passage skirts around external base of bank NNE->SSW. Gap in bank (Wth 2.8m) at NE. Interior is covered with thistles and slopes down to SE.   Description

  In pasture, on SE-facing slope. Circular area (34m N-S; 36m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank with vertical stone facing (H 1.4m; Wth 0.8m) on the outside; Top of bank is flat topped (Wth 2m) and then slopes gradually down (H 1.3m; Wth 4.8m) towards interior. Break in enclosing element at SE (Wth 2.7m) has been blocked-up; a second break at NE (Wth 3m) has straight sides which appear to be of recent manufacture. At foot of stone facing E->SSW is a flat-topped berm (Wth 3.8m; H 0.35m); this fades out at E but terminated at SSW where a recent gateway abuts against stone facing.   In pasture, on break in E-facing slope. Monument, depicted as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled and incorporated into pasture field. However, slight trace of low earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.5m) evident NW->SSE, though best preserved NW->NNE, encloses circular area (diam. 32m). Interior, under pasture, slopes down gently towards centre. Grass cover in N half of interior is noticeably yellower than elsewhere in immediate area.   Description

  In pasture, on SE-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 34m) enclosed by earthen bank, with external fosse (D 0.65m; Wth 2m) SE->N. Bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.9m), best preserved along S arc, is incorporated into field boundary N->SE with low stone wall running along top. Bank is completely masked by vegetation overgrowth WNW->NE. Gaps in bank at W (Wth 2m) and SSE (Wth 1.8m). Bank is abutted by field boundaries at N and SE; latter meets another field boundary which clips outer edge of fosse SE->SW. Counterscarp earth-and-stone bank (ext. H 0.35m) at NW. Interior, covered with briars and bushes, slopes down gently to S.   In pasture, on S-facing slope. Oval area (42m N-S; 47m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1m). Enclosure is built into down-slope so that bank is higher internally (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.4m) NW->ESE. Interior, under pasture, slopes gently down to S. Field boundary skirts enclosure immediately to W. Loose stones are scattered along bank N->E and briars and bushes grow on its crest WSW->SE.   Description

  In scrub, on S-facing slope just below top of hill. Site densely overgrown with briars making inspection difficult. Circular area (diam. c. 35m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank. Apart from a short section at S where the natural slope enhances the external bank height, the internal bank height is greater than the external height (int. H 0.85m; ext. H 0.25m) so that interior is lower than surrounding terrain. Interior crossed by ruinous drystone field boundary on N-S axis, c. 9m from E edge. Limestone outcrops in N half of interior.   In pasture, at break in S-facing slope. Circular area (35.5m N-S; 35.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.35m), with external fosse (Wth 2.5m; D 0.35m) SSW->NW and NNE->E, and with counterscarp bank (ext. H 0.2m) NNE->E. Interior level and under pasture.   Description

  In pasture, straddling limestone rise in undulating terrain. Circular area (diam. 18m) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1.05m) which is covered by dense overgrowth. Entrance (Wth 4.6m) at SSW. Interior surface is uneven with dumps of earth near centre, and covered by nettles except area inside entrance which has been denuded by cattle.   Description

  In pasture, on SSE-facing slope. Circular area (23.2m N-S; 25.7m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank (int. H 1.5m; ext. H 1.75m) except ESE->S where it has been denuded by cattle accessing interior (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.7m). Field boundary runs along base of outside face of bank SE->NW; formerly this boundary continued at either end away from enclosure but these sections now removed. Recent dump-construction earth-and-stone bank running along outside base of enclosing bank NW->ENE, probably derives from these boundaries.   Description

  In pasture, on E-facing slope. Roughly circular area (26m N-S; 27m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank with external fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.6m). Bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.95m) is best preserved W->NE. Break in bank (Wth 2m) at SSE. An ESB pole stands atop bank at SE. Fosse is best preserved W->NE where field boundary runs along outer edge, but very shallow NE->SE were it is covered by nettles.   Description

  In pasture, on gentle W-facing slope. Originally circular area (diam. 37.4m E-W) has been truncated SE->SW by E-W field boundary (now 32.5m N-S). This area defined SW->SE by scarped edge (H 0.7m; Wth 3.15m), but no trace of scarp on S side of field boundary. Mature trees grow along top edge of scarp. Dip in scarp (Wth c. 4.5m) at NNE. Recently deposited band of earth and stone runs along base of scarped edge. Level interior under pasture. Recently built farm shed and concrete yard lie 40m to WSW.   Description

  In pasture, in area of limestone outcropping, on S-facing slope below brow of hill. Formerly circular area (diam. 37.7m N-S) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank NW->SW but otherwise truncated by linear N-S dry-stone field wall (now 30.8m E-W). Bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.85m), best preserved NE->SE, incorporates rock outcropping at NW and SSE. Cattle breaks in bank at SE (Wth 1.8m) and SSE (Wth 1.4m). Interior, largely clear of overgrowth but with exposed rock outcrops, slopes down to S. Architectural heritage

• Riddlestown Park, country house, 1725–1735 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay (two-bay deep) three-storey over part raised basement country house, built 1730, on a rectangular plan; five-bay full-height rear (north) elevation. Vacated, 1976. Now disused. Hipped slate roof on a quadrangular plan with clay ridge tiles, red brick Running bond chimney stacks on axis with ridge having capping supporting terracotta or yellow terracotta pots, and no rainwater goods surviving on cut-limestone ogee cornice retaining cast-iron hopper and downpipe. Part creeper- or ivy-covered lime rendered or roughcast walls with concealed cut-limestone flush quoins to corners. Square-headed central door opening approached by flight of six bull nose-detailed cut-limestone steps between wrought iron railings, cut-limestone doorcase with ogee-detailed hood moulding on fluted scroll consoles framing timber panelled door. Square-headed window openings (basement) with concealed cut- or hammered limestone surrounds framing cast-iron bars. Square-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two or six-over-six (top floor) timber sash windows having part exposes sash boxes. Square-headed window openings to rear (north) elevation with drag edged dragged cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings including cut-limestone voussoirs framing four-over-four or six-over-six (top floor) timber sash windows without horns having part exposed sash boxes. Square-headed window openings in bipartite arrangement (basement) with cut-limestone mullions, and concealed cut- or hammered limestone surrounds framing remains of timber casement windows. Interior including (ground floor): central hall retaining carved timber lugged surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors; and carved timber lugged surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with carved timber surrounds to window openings framing timber panelled shutters on panelled risers. Set in unkempt grounds with tooled limestone ashlar piers to perimeter having remains of ogee-detailed cornice capping.
