  Description

  The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Site of chapel which was formed into a circular enclosure in the early nineteenth century (CLAJ 1918, 273) in order to preserve its remains. It consists of a small flat-topped mound with stone revetment. A cross slab and mortar found with human bones in Funshog townland in the nineteenth century may have originally come from the church. The slab has a plain, almost equal-armed cross on one side only (JRSAI 1973, 197-9). They are now in the National Museum, Dublin. (CLAJ 1944, 280)

  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey former gate lodge, built c. 1840, now in private domestic use. Rectangular-plan, projecting gable-fronted full-height entrance bay to north, single-storey flat asphalt roofed extension to south. Hipped and pitched slate roofs with sprocketed eaves, clay ridge and hip tiles, sky-lights to south, uPVC gutters and downpipes, painted timber bargeboard to gable of entrance bay, painted smooth rendered chimneystack, flat-capped. Painted smooth rendered walling to all elevations; painted smooth rendered slightly projecting plinth, channelled quoins to outer corners, vertically banded quoins to entrance bay, north elevation Square-headed window openings, painted tooled stone sills, painted moulded timber frames and central mullion, multiple-pane metal windows, elongated octagonal design; narrow window to west elevation, elongated octagonal leaded light; painted casement window to east; uPVC windows to extension. Square-headed door opening to east elevation of porch, painted timber vertically-sheeted door. Garden to south, north bounded by mild steel railings flanked by tooled limestone round-headed piers; house opposite entrance to Ashville House.

  Description

  Detached five-bay single-storey house, built c. 1840. T-plan, projecting glazed porch to east, pitched roofed porch to west, single-bay hipped roof projecting to north. Hipped fibre-cement pantile roof, rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron gutters, circular cast-iron downpipes. Painted smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walling, painted channelled quoins. Square-headed window openings, tooled limestone sills, painted timber six-over-six sliding sash windows, tripartite windows to south comprising central one-over-one sliding sash windows flanked by decorative sidelights; pointed arch window to west elevation, stained glass light. Square-headed door opening within glazed porch; porch comprising smooth rendered plinth wall, painted stone coping, decorative fixed lights, paired slender fluted Doric pilasters to corners supporting frieze and cornice, painted timber and glazed door flanked by narrow sidelights, limestone steps surround porch. House situated in extensive grounds comprising pond to south-east, walled garden to south and stableyard to north. Segmental-headed arch within random rubble stone wall leads to ranges of one- and two-storey stone outbuildings; pitched slate roofs, rubble stone walling, square-headed window and door openings, red brick surrounds. Site bounded by rubble stone walls, accessed through wrought- and cast-iron latticework gates, latticework piers crowned by acanthus leaf motif; former gate lodge terminates vista to south.
