  Description

  In pasture, located on the top of the E side of a N−S ridge, which provides extensive views to NE and E. Levallinree Lough is located 760m to E. The rath is located at the W end of, and spans full the N−S width of a narrow rectilinear field. The townland boundary respect the curve of the rath at N, and a bye-road skirts the W side of the rath. Oval area (35m E−W; 30m N−S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2m; int. H 1m; ext. H 1.5m). The bank is best preserved at NNW−NNE, and at ESE−SW, where there are traces of possible stone facing on the internal and external faces. There are breaks in the bank at SW, NE and E.   In generally level low-lying, damp, improved pasture.  Reported as one of six possible fulachta fiadh (along with MA070-008001-, MA070-008003-, MA070-008004-, MA070-008005- and MA070-008006-) running in a more or less N-S line (L c. 200m) near the E bank of a small N-flowing stream (SMR file). All that is visible is roughly circular grassy patch (diam. 15m) level with the surrounding darker grass and dock-covered ground.  A subcircular rush-covered area in the centre (diam. 5m) may indicate the location of a trough.   Description

  In generally level low-lying, damp, improved pasture.  Reported as one of six possible fulachta fiadh (along with MA070-008001-, MA070-008002-, MA070-008004-, MA070-008005- and MA070-008006-) running in a more or less N-S line (L c. 200m) near the E bank of a small N-flowing stream, and described as, “a large mound, diam. 17m; H 1m” (SMR file). It survives as an oval-shaped grass-covered, stony mound (ext. diams. 15m N–S; 12m E–W; H 0.4-0.6m) with a level upper surface (diams. 10m N-S; 6m E-W). It survives as a low partly stony subcircular mound (diams. 8m N–S; 7m E–W: H 0.1m). Its surface grows wild grass, yellow vetch and silverweed while rushes grow outside to the E.   Description

  In a narrow strip of level pasture between a small S-slowing stream to the W and the foot of a pasture ridge to the E.  Reported as one of six possible fulachta fiadh (along with MA070-008001-, MA070-008002-, MA070-008003-, MA070-008004- and MA070-008006-) running in a more or less N-S line (L c. 200m) near the E bank of a small N-flowing stream, and described as, “a circular mound, hollow in the centre” (SMR file). It survives as a low, subcircular circular, stony mound (diams. 13m N–S; 11m E–W: H 0.4m at SW – 0.8m at S), surrounded by rushes with an abundance of nettles along its W edge, which is the least well defined.   Description

  In a narrow strip of level improved pasture between a small S-slowing stream to the W and the foot of a pasture ridge to the E.  Reported as one of six possible fulachta fiadh (along with MA070-008001-, MA070-008002-, MA070-008003-, MA070-008004- and MA070-008005-) running in a more or less N-S line (L c. 200m) near the E bank of a small N-flowing stream. • MA070-009 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a level terrace on the gentle SE slope of a pasture ridge. Reported as a “stone wall circular enclosure” (SMR file). A poorly preserved, roughly C-shaped area (diam. 24m E-W) is defined by a broad low earthen bank (av. Wth 3m; int. H 0.3-0.6m; ext. H 0.7-1m) from SW-N-SSE. There is no surface trace of an enclosing element between SSE and SW resulting in the site being incorporated into a small field to its S. An overgrown stream flows NE c. 5m of the W. A grass-covered stony mound (dims. 12m N-S; 10.5m E-W; H 0.5-0.75m) with a damper hollow area (L 8m N-S; Wth 3m; D 0.3m) along the W which may indicate the presence of a trough.   Reported as a fulacht fia (SMR file). In low-lying damp rushy ground near the S foot of a steep pasture slope. A fast-running stream flows E c. 7m to the N.   Description

  In reclaimed pasture near the upper NE end of a ridge. (Google Earth aerial imagery, 10-6-2010, shows the location under dense tree and scrub cover.) Reported as a Children’s Burial Ground (SMR file) and still regarded as such locally. While there is no visible surface trace, sub-surface evidence may survive intact. A bullaun stone (MA070-014001-) lies c. 30m to the NW and there is a ringfort (MA070-016----) in the same field, c. 60m to the SW.   Description

  In a low-lying natural hollow in improved pasture at the E foot of a broad ridge. Reported as a possible church site and “destroyed ecclesiastical enclosure ‘Croch na Cille’” (SMR file). There is no evidence of a church at this location and while locals were aware of a Children’s Burial Ground (MA070-014002-) c. 90m to the WNW – and there is a bullaun stone (MA070-014001-) c. 120m to the WNW - they were unaware of the possible presence of a church in this area.   Description

  In a low-lying natural hollow in improved pasture at the E foot of a broad ridge. There is no visible surface evidence of an ecclesiastical enclosure, or a church site, at this location and while locals were aware of a Children’s Burial Ground (MA070-014002-) c. 90m to the WNW – and there is a bullaun stone (MA070-014001-) c. 120m to the WNW - they were unaware of the possible presence of a church or enclosure at the reported location. • MA070-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Near the top of the moderately steep W-facing slope of a NE–SW ridge in improved pasture. A roughly circular area (int. diams. 30m E-W; 26m N-S) is defined by a generally flat-topped bank of earth and stone (av. Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.4m-1m; ext. H 1.1- 1.5m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.3m) from SW-W.  Trees and bushes grow along the perimeter. An old fence runs WNW-ESE across the S interior and there is a large hollow (dims. 10m E-W; 5m N-S; av. D 0.5m) in the NE sector.
