  Description

  In pasture, on gentle SE-facing slope. Roughly D-shaped area (diam. 33m E-W), enclosed by bank of earth and stone (H 2.6m). Gap (Wth 6m) in SE. External linear bank (L 18m; H 0.6m) of earth and stone runs parallel to site on S. The above description has been derived from D.   Description

  In rich pasture, on gentle E-facing slope. D-shaped area (31m N-S; 31m E-W), enclosed by inner bank (H 0.6m) and external bank (ext. H 1.2m), with well defined intervening fosse (D 1.7m). Fosse interrupted on E by entrance (Wth 2.1m), with causeway. The above description has been derived from D. • MA121-199 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, located on a NW−facing terrace on a low hill. A modern road skirts the base of the hill at W−NW This rath is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It has been partly levelled and the remains are now very low profile at ground level. Subcircular area (38m N−S; 41m E−W) defined by a levelled bank. At W−E the bank is reduced to a broad, low undulation (Wth 3-4), which merges with the natural fall of ground at the terrace edge; at NW the terrace slope drops 1.7m to lower ground. At SE−SW the bank is evident as an inward-sloping scarp (int. H c. 0.7m), which cuts across the rising hill slope. Stones protrude from the sod in parts around the perimeter. A low area (Wth c. 3-4m) on the perimeter at E, with a gently external slope, may be an original entrance. There is another, poorly defined low area at SW. In the NW quadrant, a low scarp (H 0.45m) curves NW−N in a shallow arc (L c. 7m), with a large stone or bedrock protruding from the N end. It marks a drop in interior ground level along the NW perimeter of the terrace. There are two enclosure (MA121-068----; MA121-069----) 225m and 350m to SE and E, respectively, and Kilkeeran church (MA121-065001-) and ecclesiastical enclosure (MA121-065003-) are located 450m to W. • Fountainhill, farm house, 1700–1769 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse, extant 1769[?], on a symmetrical plan. For sale, 1852. Occupied, 1911. For sale, 1969. Now in ruins. Remains of hipped slate roof on timber construction with clay ridge tiles, paired fine roughcast central chimney stacks having cut-limestone stringcourses below capping, and no rainwater goods surviving on cut-limestone eaves. Part creeper- or ivy-covered fine roughcast walls. Segmental-headed[?] central door opening with overgrown threshold, and cut-limestone block-and-start surround with no fittings surviving. Square-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings framing remains of six-over-six timber sash windows without horns. Interior in ruins including (ground floor): central entrance hall retaining timber surrounds to some door openings framing remains of timber panelled doors; and timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing remains of timber panelled doors with timber panelled shutters to some window openings. Set in unkempt grounds with rendered piers to perimeter having lichen-covered capping supporting wrought iron "farm gate".
