• ME015-096 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on the NE edge of and towards the SE end of a broad and undulating NW-SE ridge. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 39m WNW-ESE) that slopes down to the SE. It is defined by an earthen bank (at WNW: Wth of base 4.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.4m) that is reduced to a scarp (at ESW: Wth 6m; H 2.1m) N-ESE, and traces of an outer fosse (at WNW: Wth of top 4m; ext. D 0.4m). The ramp entrance is at SE. Towards the perimeter at N the interior is overlain by an E-W field bank and townland boundary with Pigotstown to the N, and the monument is not as well defined on this side. Just S of this boundary is a house site (dims 7m E-W; 5m N-S) defined by earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; H 0.3-0.4m) with an entrance gap (Wth of base 0.5m) at E. There is a fragment of a relict field bank just S of the house. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987).   Description

  Located on the NE edge of and towards the SE end of a broad and undulating NW-SE ridge, and at the centre of rath (ME015-096----). This is a grass-covered rectangular area (dims 7m E-W; 5m N-S) defined by earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; H 0.3-0.4m) with an entrance gap (Wth of base 0.5m) at E. • ME022-005 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a hillock in a low-lying undulating landscape. This is a circular grass-covered area coming to a sharp angle at N (diam. 28m NNE-SSW; 27m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 3.6-4.8; int. H 0.3-0.7m; ext. H 1.2-1.9m) with some bushes and traces of an inner stone facing. There is an outer fosse (Wth of base 2m; ext. D 0.6m) SW-N, and an outer bank (Wth of base 4.3m; ext. H 0.8m) SSW-WSW, which could be incorporated into a NE-SW field bank SE-SSW. The entrance (Wth of base 1.9m) is at NNW. The interior is overlain by fragments of a NW-SE field bank, with another bank extending SW from it at the centre. The outer bank had been removed by 1995 (OSAP).
