Description
Terraced three-bay three-storey building, built c.1830, with two-bay two-storey catslide extension to rear and corrugated steel-sheeted accommodation suspended over vehicular access passage on east side of rear, north, elevation. Pitched roof with fibre-cement slates and ridge, having brick chimneystack with over-sailing course to west gable wall, and cast-iron half-round gutters held on small stone cornice with round-profile downpipes. Ashlar granite walls to front façade with projecting sandstone sill courses and block-and-start stone surrounds to window openings. Rear walls of plain painted brick, with stone to base. Square-headed window openings have replacement uPVC frames throughout. Ground floor painted and smooth rendered with aluminium shopfront and plastic printed fascia. On west side of façade is three-centred arch vehicular access opening with round stone wheel stop on one side and projecting rounded stone base to painted brick walls on either side of passageway leading to rear yard. Twelve-bay two-storey range of gabled slated stables and outhouses to rear of property with painted rubble stone walls with brick dressings.

Terraced three-bay three-storey bank building, built c.1830, with three-bay single-storey addition of 1880 to designs by Samuel Close, three-bay three-storey gabled extension to rear, north, elevation, and further modern flat-roofed single-storey additions to rear. Pitched roof to main block with fibre-cement tiles and smooth rendered chimneystack to east gable wall with smooth rendered ruled-and-lined brick chimneystack having stepped over-sailing render cornice on west party wall. Hipped roof to addition, behind decorative render parapet balustrade over moulded cornice with dentils. Cast-iron ogee-profile gutters with round-profile downpipes. Painted smooth ruled-and-lined rendered walls to south façade with projecting moulded render sill courses incorporating stone sills to first and second floors. Main block has moulded render architraves to all front openings, rusticated render block-and-start quoins, fascia and cornice over painted smooth rendered ground floor with moulded render plinth. Square-headed window openings to main block have one-over-one pane timber sliding sash frames with ogee horns to front façade while frames to roughcast rendered rear elevation and east gable have mostly six-over-six pane arrangement with some round-headed timber sliding sash windows. One ground floor window lowered and converted to hold an automatic teller machine. Bank front to addition has arcaded windows, render impost moulding, moulded render archivolts having keystones over each opening framed with moulded pilasters. Square-headed doorway to main block has pilasters, consoles and moulded render cornice with balustrade above, moulded and stopped reveals, square-headed overlight and six-panel timber door. Cast-iron railings on smooth rendered plinth to front of clay-tiled area to west side of entrance to front of addition.

Description
Terraced four-bay two-storey house, built c.1860, with integral square-headed carriageway to east end bay, two-bay two-storey extension to rear under catslide roof which incorporates two late twentieth-century rooflights, and further single-storey flat-roofed structures beyond. Converted for use as post office in 1909, with attic-level rooms lit by continuous front lucarne, to designs by John McGahon. Pitched roof with fibre-cement tiles concealed behind parapet to front, south, façade. Cement-rendered brick chimneystack with seven plain clay pots, and smaller stack on west party wall with cast-iron hopper and replacement uPVC downpipe. Painted smooth ruled-and-lined rendered walls to front façade and east gable with projecting moulded render sill and string courses, front elevation having moulded architraves to first floor openings and chamfered and stopped reveals to second floor. Roughcast rendered to rear. Square-headed window openings have one-over-one pane timber sliding sash frames with convex horns to front south elevation, while frames to rear elevation are mostly two-over-two pane. Replacement timber windows to middle bays of shopfront, square-headed doorway to west end with overlight and panelled timber door, all openings framed by moulded render pilasters. Shopfront has architrave, fascia with raised plaster lettering and metal harp motif over doorway, and moulded render cornice. Post box incorporated into moulded render sill of one display window and extends into smooth rendered stall riser with moulded render base.

Terraced five-bay three-storey public house and shop, c.1810, with integral carriage arch to west end. Top floor is addition of c.1920. Pitched roof with fibre-cement tiles and replacement decorative terracotta ridge. Single brick chimneystack on party wall between pub and shop, with moulded over-sailing courses and cast-iron ogee-profile rainwater goods with mixture of cast-iron and plastic downpipe. Smooth channelled cement rendered walls to lower floors, painted to ground floor, with render sill course to lower floors incorporating stone sills. Square-headed window openings with replacement uPVC frames. Square-headed doorway to centre of pub front with fluted pilasters holding consoles and moulded render dentillated cornice over moulded panel and six-panel timber door with overlight. Middle bay of ground floor has two windows with painted stone sills and fluted architraves with nail-head mouldings to corners, and replacement uPVC frames. East of doorway is timber pub front with plain pilasters holding acanthus leaf-decorated consoles and replacement plastic-sheeted fascia. Double-leaf timber panelled doors with overlight to public house, with replacement timber display window over glazed tiled stall-riser. Butcher’s shop towards west end has replacement timber shopfront with clock above centre of fascia, and timber-sheeted doors to three-centred integral archway.

Terraced four-bay three-storey building, c.1810, possibly formerly two separate houses, with former integral carriage arch to west end of front, and with top floor and two-storey canted bays to front façade added c.1910. In use as credit union. Pitched roof with replacement slate, decorative terracotta ridge, and chamfered stone-capped gable parapets. Smooth-rendered chimneystacks on both gable ends and one to centre with over-sailing courses and cast-iron ogee-profile rainwater goods held on timber fasciaboard mounted on exposed, overhanging, with carved rafter ends, and square-profile downpipe. Painted smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walls to upper floors separated by moulded render sill course. Ground floor facade of polished granite tiles. Rusticated render quoins, with rusticated render quoin strips to angles of bay windows. Render sill course to top floor incorporating stone sills of square-headed window openings, latter having replacement one-over-one pane timber sliding sash frames with ogee horns and deep reveals. Polished granite moulded sills, plinth and door architraves, and replacement timber windows to ground floor. Flat lead roofs to bay windows, linked at ground floor level over entrance porch with flat-roofed section having cast-iron rainwater goods. Square-headed doorway to porch projects from front façade to be level with canted-bay windows either side, with overlight above replacement timber door. Double-leaf replacement timber doors with overlight to former vehicular access.

Flemish bonded brick walls to upper floors separated by moulded render string course, and painted smooth render to ground floor. Moulded stone window sills supported by pairs of carved stone corbels, and square-headed openings have one-over-one pane timber sliding sash frames with ogee horns. Flat lead roof to bay window with moulded render string course and timber cornice, with some remaining moulded detail to smooth rendered piers to inner sides of window openings which have replacement timber frames. Square-headed doorway with moulded render architrave, overlight and four-panel timber door with brass door furniture. Cast-iron railings to front of bay window with basement window lights on ground either side of bay.

Detached five-bay three-storey house with raised basement, built c.1780, in use as hotel since 1824, and having two-bay full-height addition to middle of rear, and single-bay single-storey addition to rear re-entrant corner. Pitched slate roof with render copings and yellow-brick gable-end chimneystacks. Smooth rendered walls with render plinth and render block-and-start quoins. Square-headed one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to front elevation and square-headed mainly boarded up windows to rear. Square-headed doorway to front elevation having moulded render surround, detached moulded cornice, and replacement glazed timber door, approached by flight of limestone steps and having decorative rose device above doorway now lacking original lamp fitting. Basement area to front protected by painted stone plinth supporting decorative cast-iron railing with banded newel posts. Gateway to east gives access to yard to rear.

Terraced two-bay three-storey house, built c.1830, with pitched slate roof, having red brick chimneystack with over-sailing course to north party wall, and half-round cast-iron gutters with wrought-iron brackets draining into cast-iron hopper head with downpipe on neighbouring building. Painted smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walls. Square-headed window openings having painted stone sills and timber sliding sash windows, three-over-three pane with convex horns to top floor and six-over-six pane to first floor and boarded over replacement timber frame to ground floor. Square-headed doorway with timber lintel, overlight and four-panel timber door.

Description
Terraced four-bay two-storey house, built c.1830, formerly two two-bay houses, with shop to ground floor. Pitched fibre-cement slate roof with black clay ridge tiles. Rendered and brick chimneystacks, with single projecting course to northern stack and stepped courses to southern. Half-round cast-iron gutters fixed to smooth rendered platband with wrought-iron brackets and round-profile downpipe. Painted smooth rendered walls, with render and timber shopfront. Uneven but symmetrically spaced square-headed one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor with convex horns to northern bays and two-over-two horizontal-pane to southern bays, all with painted stone sills. Engaged render columns with cubic bases and capitals frame central doorway with partially glazed replacement timber door with overlight and ramped concrete access. Ordnance Survey benchmark carved into smooth rendered reveal of door, either side of which are large, square canted display windows with fine timber glazing bars to junctions, and moulded timber sill over low smooth rendered stall riser. Blank fasciaboard held by columns with moulded timber cornice and fluted consoles to each end. Square-headed doorway to north end of shopfront providing access to house over shop, with replacement glazed timber door.
