  Description

  A deposit of mixed brushwood, roundwoods and a peg on the field surface (L 3.15m; Wth 2.51m; D 0.05m). Four roundwoods are orientated NE-SW and are spaced between 0.3-0.76m apart. The remaining brushwood and roundwoods are irregularly laid. The peg is situated in the centre of the site and set at an angle of 85°. This site is very fragmentary and in a poor condition. It lies in poor to moderately humified Sphagnum peat with some Eriophorum and ericaceous remains. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 2002.   Description

  An irregular deposit of two split timbers and two pieces of heavy brushwood on the field surface (L 3.4m min.; Wth 2.65m min.; D 0.08m). One of the timbers (Wth 0.14m; D 0.07m) is half-split and squared at one end. The other (Wth 0.195m; D 0.055m) is tangentially split with the remains of one or possibly two mortices. All the elements are damaged and in a poor condition. This site lies in poorly humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum.   Description

  The site (L 3.83m min.; Wth 1.04m; D 0.05m) is orientated NW-SE and consists of densely packed, longitudinal mixed brushwood laid two pieces deep. Where exposed, the site has suffered extensive machine damage. Many of the elements are broken and displaced, however, there is an undisturbed portion to the NW where the site is well preserved. Three metal-cut chisel points were noted. The site is set in poorly to moderately humified Sphagnum peat with a large amount of Eriophorum and some unidentified reeds.   Description

  The site (L 4.68m; Wth 1.41m; D 0.1m) is orientated NE-SW and consists of closely spaced, longitudinal, mixed brushwood, light roundwoods and a bed of twigs. The lighter brushwood and the twig bed are centrally placed with the larger elements at either edge. The wood is machine damaged but is in a good condition.   The site (L 3.94m; Wth 1.08m; D 0.155m) consists of light brushwood and roundwoods orientated E-W on the field surface The elements are longitudinally and densely laid, one piece in depth. The wood is in a good condition with chisel points present. It lies in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with ericaceous remains. This site has been radiocarbon dated to 2308-1983 cal. BC (Wk-11719).   Description

  The site (L 13.55m min.; Wth 3.66m; D 0.06m min.) is orientated NNW-SSE and consists of transverse brushwood, roundwoods and occasional twigs, which are closely spaced and one to two pieces in depth. The wood is generally in poor condition and some of the brushwood appears to have been disturbed into irregular positions. Metal-cut chisel points were noted, some of which have signatures. • OF018-123 Road - class 2 togher
  Description

  The site (L 7.05m; Wth 1.7m; D 0.28m) has a possible NW-SE orientation and consists of split timbers, brushwood and a single peg. Central to the site is a transverse timber (L 0.96m min.; Wth 0.4m; D 0.19m) which is tangentially split and has a damaged mortice at one end. Parallel and at a lower level to this are two smaller timbers and a vertical peg. The brushwood (diam. 0.017-0.037m) is irregularly laid. The wood is in moderate to good condition but the site has been severely disturbed by machinery. A single chisel point is present on a piece of brushwood. Dendrochronologically dated to 672.5±5 BC (Q10351). Approximately 1.9m W of the large plank are a number of smaller timbers (L 0.1-0.5m; Wth 0.06-0.14m). There are further displaced timber fragments on the E side of the site. The main body of this site lies in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum. This site is believed to have formerly extended for a considerable distance in a N-S direction and may have formed part of SMR OF018-175---- (Mr J. Kilmurray, BnM, pers. comm.).   Two pieces of heavy brushwood set either side of a roundwood on the field surface (L 0.7m; Wth 0.53m; D 0.09m). The wood is laid parallel and 0.03-0.1m apart.   Description

  The site (L 27.8m min.; Wth 1.15m min.; D 0.6m min.) is orientated NW-SE and consists of two vertical posts (diam. 0.08m-0.1m), between which are a number of irregularly laid, widely spaced brushwood (diam. 0.015-0.045m) and roundwoods (diam. 0.06-0.1m). An artefact (02E0839:7) was also recovered from the site. Overall this site is in a very poor condition with no clear structure evident.   Description

  The site (L 0.96m min.; Wth 1.12m; D 0.27m) is orientated NNW-SSE and consists of densely packed mixed brushwood, a light roundwood and twig beds. The brushwood is laid both transversely and longitudinally, up to five pieces in depth. On the W side of the site the brushwood lies within a large bed of twigs and bark while on the E side the twigs are interspersed with the brushwood. There is a large tree stump at the W edge of the site, the roots of which appear to have been incorporated into the structure. A smaller tree stump and the light roundwood bound the E edge. This wood is in excellent condition although some elements may have been displaced. The main body of the site lies in well-humified Sphagnum peat with an area of very poorly humified Sphagnum peat containing Eriophorum and fibrous roots at its W extent.   Description

  The site (L 8.6m min.; Wth 3.23m; D 0.27m min.) is orientated NNW-SSE and consists of mixed brushwood, a roundwood, occasional twigs and a single post at its S extent. The elements are closely spaced, one piece in depth and generally transversely laid, although some pieces are in irregular positions. There are a number of further potential uprights but these pieces may have been compressed and dislodged as a result of machine activity. The wood is in poor to moderate condition and branch-trimming and a number of chisel points were noted.
