  Description

  Located on a low ridge running E-W in undulating countryside. Roughly circular area (diam 39m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1m) which is only visible from W through N to E to S, destroyed elsewhere. Field fence intersects NE sector of site. No evidence of an outer fosse or entrance feature. The interior of the site slopes from S to N following the natural slope of the ridge.   Description

  A single post (L 0.3m; diam. 0.11m) with a chisel shaped end. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. • OF007-181 Post row - peatland
  Description

  A post (diam. 0.07m) and stake (diam. 0.05m) exposed on the field surface, with a third displaced in the drain (L 0.4m; diam. 0.07m). The two in situ elements were set 0.4m apart at 35-90° angles. One of the pieces has been identified as alder. They were worked to a chisel and a pencil point end and set into the raised bog peat with frequent Eriophorum, twigs and occasional Sphagnum. • OF007-182 Road - class 1 togher
  Description

  This site (L 391.75m min.; Wth 0.54m; D 0.095m) is orientated NNE-SSW and consists of three parallel pieces of roundwood laid longitudinally. The roundwoods (L 3.82 max.; diam. 0.06-0.115m) were set approximately 0.2-0.3m apart. Only two or three pieces were evident at each sighting. Two of the roundwoods have been identified as alder with evidence of wedge shaped ends with the third piece having a chisel shaped toolmark. The wood was set in poorly humified peat with frequent Sphagnum, Eriophorum and pockets of ericaceous remains. The site has been radiocarbon dated to cal. AD 427-661 (Beta-118032).   Description

  Fourteen near vertical stakes and posts (L 0.24-0.62m; diam. 0.05-0.08m) orientated N-S which were traced across the overgrown field surface towards the dryland (L 9m; Wth 0.7m; diam. 0.08m). There is also some associated brushwood on the field surface. Within the area examined the stakes were set 0.2-0.4m apart with a small number of horizontally laid pieces of brushwood which are orientated perpendicular to the stakes and posts. • OF007-343 Road - class 2 togher
  Description

  The site (L 3m min.; Wth 1.7m; D 0.32m) is orientated NW-SE and composed of four to five closely laid longitudinal timbers (Wth 0.2-0.5m). Beneath these are three transversely laid roundwoods (diam. 0.06-0.1m). At the W edge of the site is a peg (diam. c. 0.06m) set at 50°. A single piece of horizontal brushwood lies c. 1.2m W of this at the same level as the site. Small ex situ timber fragments are scattered amongst the larger elements and on the drain face. The exposed ends of the timbers are frayed and machine damaged but the site as a whole appears to be in a good to moderate condition. This site sits at an interface between two peat types, above it lies poorly humified Sphagnum peat while below it is moderately humified Sphagnum peat. Fragments of the site were also visible in the opposite drain face, c. 0.3m below the spreading surface which slopes sharply down to the waterline. In addition ex situ timbers were present on the spreading surface including one possible outer tangential. Some of these timbers appeared to have been burnt.
