- MA071-088 Enclosure
Description
At the narrow N end of a roughly triangular modern field of rough, wet pasture, located on a low rise, with good views. A circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 20m) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on later map editions. It has been levelled, but the outline of a roughly circular, slightly raised area (c. 25m E−W; c. 28m N−S) can still be traced. It is evident as an island of short green grass surrounded by rushes. - MA071-089 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture incorporated into the SW corner of a modern rectangular field, located on top of a low ridge, at the break of slope on the gently falling S side. Views quite good over undulating terrain, wet in the lowlying hollows. Circular platform (40.5m NW−SE; 43.6m NE−SW) defined by a high scarp (H 2m at SW, 1.7m at NE). A section of the scarp and a portion of the adjacent interior have been quarried out at NE−E in the past (grassed over now). The scarp is lowest and rather slumped at NNE. It retains a slightly raised inner lip at SE−S. It serves as a field boundary at ESE−S−WSW, and its exterior slope is covered in hawthorn and ash trees. At W the scarp is subsumed into a N−S field fence and is topped with a stone wall and engulfed in a hedgerow. There is a very slight rise in interior ground level in the N half, to NW of centre, with a gently slope down from there to E and S. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 August 2021

- MA071-085 Ringfort - rath
Description
In wettish pasture, located a few meters E of a N-flowing stream. A concrete wall lies a few meters N of the rath bordering the N5. Bohola village is located immediately to W. Raised circular area (32m N−S; 32m E−W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.35m at N; int. H 0.45m at N, 1.1m at E; ext. H 1.8 at N). The bank is cut vertically externally and is consistently high (1.8-2m) and relatively narrow (2.5-3m) around its circuit. Internally, the bank is highest on the E arc, and is very low on the W half, reduced almost to a scarp. A hint of a depression (Wth c. 2.5m) outside the bank, clearest at W, may indicate a fosse. There is a gap (Wth 1m) at NE, but it is not clear if this is an original entrance; several narrow gaps around the circuit have been eroded by cattle. The interior is fairly level, with a very slight slope down from centre to the NE quadrant. The bank is ringed with ash and sycamore trees, and there are a few blackthorn bushes in the interior. - MA071-086 Enclosure
Description
Located in rough, rush-grown pasture, in the NW corner of a modern rectilinear field. A circular embanked enclosure (diam. 20-25m) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, clipped at W by a N−S field boundary and incorporated into an E−W townland boundary on its N arc; it is not shown on later map editions. The enclosure had been levelled. A curving section of field fence (L c. 16m; Wth 2.5-3m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.8m), outside which is a shallow fosse-like depression (Wth 2m; D 0.4m), may preserve the SSW–NNW arc of a circular enclosure. The fence is engulfed in overgrowth and difficult to examine, but it appears to be constructed of earth and stone. A very shallow curve is also evident in the intersecting E−W field boundary/townland boundary at N. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 August 2021
