• KD019-040 Mound
  Description

  On a low knoll in gently undulating pasture, with a long, gentle slope falling away to E and SE. A modern track runs from the main road to SW and passes SE and E of the site. A low, oval, grass-covered mound (H 1.4-1.7m; base diams. 21.2m NW-SE; 16.75m NE-SW; surface diams. 10m NE-SW; 4.4m NW-SE) has a large, earthfast, rectangular block of limestone (dims. traceable L 1.5m; Wth 0.4m) at SE, which may be a displaced kerbstone. Thorn bushes grow on the side of the mound S-SW and the area upslope of them has been poached by livestock, revealing a clay composition in that part of the mound. • KD019-041 Standing stone
  Description

  At the E-end of a low ridge, with long, gentle slopes falling away immediately to the N, E and S, and level pasture running off to the W. A tall, granite pillar, (H. 3.35m); the upper portion of which has been roughly worked into the shape of a rude cross. The stone appears to be a granite conglomerate, with some white quartz inclusions visible under the S-arm of the cross. The stone is roughly shaped, being a rounded-rectangular on a N-S axis at the base (Wth 0.95m; T 0.7m) before narrowing to an almost square section above (Wth 0.45m; T 0.4m), with stubby arms (Wth 0.6m) near the top. Several large, rough blocks at the base, not all of them earthfast, may have been an attempt at creating a rough plinth (H 0.4m).
