Description
A drystone-built souterrain, described as containing passages and chambers, was discovered several decades ago at this location on the S side of the Ferta river estuary. It is not marked on the OS maps. It extended in part beneath the present Cahersiveen-Killorglin roadway and was infilled for safety reasons by the County Council (local information). No surface trace is apparent. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 903. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013
