• KE067-007 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope with views SW to Mangerton Mountain. A raised circular area (58m NE-SW; 57m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5.3m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.24m) best preserved along the E arc. A N-S field boundary truncates the exterior of the bank at W, and an E-W field boundary abuts it at SSW. A break (Wth 5.05m) at SE may indicate the entrance. An open drain has recently been cut along the external base of the bank NNW-E. Cattle breaks occur at NE (Wth 1.2m) and at NNW (Wth 1.3m). The interior generally slopes down to the S and SW. The remains of cultivation ridges are evident in the SW quadrant. An irregular raised stony area, mainly in the S quadrant, may be the remains of a hut site (KE067-007001-). A possible children's burial ground (KE067-007002-) and a possible souterrain (KE067-007003-) are in the rath. The rath is partially obscured by trees and bushes.   Description

  In the S quadrant of a rath (KE067-007----). An irregular, raised, stony area (c. 10m NE-SW; c. 8m NW-SE), which is obscured by bushes, appears to be the remains of a collapsed hut. • KE067-008 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope with views SW to Mangerton Mountain. A raised circular area (c. 47m E-W; 44m N-S) defined by an inner earthen bank (Wth 7.25m; int. H 1.6m; ext. H 2.6m) obscured by overgrowth, by an intervening fosse (Wth 4.8m) and by an outer earthen bank (Wth 3.35m; int. H 2.6m; ext. H 2.6m) also obscured by overgrowth. Recent breaks which occur in the outer bank at SSW (Wth 5.5m) and at NNE (Wth c. 7.5m) lead to the fosse, where the bases of both flanking banks and the base of the fosse have recently been re-cut NNE-SSW. The fern-covered fosse is intact SSW-NNE. The level interior is covered with overgrowth and has a possible souterrain (KE067-008001-) to the NW of the centre. A curvilinear field boundary skirts the external base of the bank SSW-W and an open drain skirts it NW-N. • KE067-103 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope with views SE to The Paps of Dana. An arc (C 60m) of a scarp (H 0.2m) NE-E and of a low earthen bank (Wth 2.6m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 1m) E-SE abuts the E side of a field boundary. This may be the remains of a rath, but there are no visible remains of it on the W side of the field boundary. A possible souterrain (KE067-102----) was recently found at the SE terminus of the arc. There is a local tradition of a rath in the area.
