Description
This site is marked on the 1841-42 OS map as 'Kyle burial ground'. Though it is marked on the later edition map, it has no map designation. Today, this site has been much levelled, and all that remains is a roughly rectangular mound, measuring 20m N-S x 45m E-W. The external height of the bank measures a maximum of .6m. E of this site lies a ringfort (KE002-029----). The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Description
Depicted as a roughly circular enclosure (c. 39m N-S; 42m E-W) on the OS 6-inch map (1914) with a break in bank at NE (Wth c. 13m). This site is marked on the 1841-42 OS map as 'Kyle burial ground'. Today, this site has been much levelled, and all that remains is a roughly rectangular mound, measuring 20m N-S x 45m E-W. The external height of the bank measures a maximum of .6m. - KE002-029 Ringfort - rath
Description
This univallate rath is situated on gently sloping land and has extensive views of the surrounding countryside. It consists of a roughly circular area (28m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank and a slight exterior fosse from the NW-W. The external height of the bank above the fosse measures 1.6m, the internal height 1m and the width of the bank at the base is on average 3.5m. N-NE, the bank only survives as a slight rise above the surrounding land. The interior is gently sloping N. The fosse is 1m wide and 0.8m below the height of the surrounding land.
