Description
In pasture, on a low hillock, to the rear of a farmyard. The overgrown remains of a rectangular structure (int. 17m E-W; 3.6m N-S; wall T 0.53m), known as Browne's Castle. It consists of the E and W gables, each with a short return of its N and S walls. The E gable (H c. 3m) has a central fireplace. Two inserted concrete walls (max. L 3.45m) project to the W from the internal face of the E gable. The W gable (H c. 5m) is incorporated into the NE corner of a one-storey vernacular house. Description
In pasture, on the summit of a low hill, overlooking the valley of the Glanooragh River to the S. The rath is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m). A roughly circular level area (c. 42m N-S) is evident defined by a slight trace of a bank NW-NE and by a natural fall of ground along the S arc. Another rath (KE058-062----) lies c. 150m to the SSE. Description
In pasture, on a SE-facing slope. A raised circular area (c. 28m N-S) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner earth and stone bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.15m) is evident all round. The intervening U-shaped fosse is covered with overgrowth and stones are dumped along it at irregular intervals. The outer bank (ext. H 1.35m) is best preserved SW-SE with only a slight trace visible SE-SW. The raised interior, which slopes down to the SE, is concave and uneven. There is a possible entrance in the inner and outer banks at SE and a cattle gap in the inner bank at ENE. There are also breaks in the outer bank at NW, NNW and WSW and cattle gaps at NE and ENE.
