- KE004-042 Ringfort - rath
Description
Marked on the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps. This univallate rath was levelled and no surface trace remains, but it shows up quite clearly on the Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 242. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
- KE005-032 Ringfort - rath
Description
Marked on the 1841-42 and 1914 OS maps a circular enclosure, this site has since been levelled. However, in 1974, this rath, which contained a souterrain (KE005-032001-), was inspected by the OPW. The fort at that stage was almost completely destroyed. The roof of one of the chambers in the T-shaped souterrain was destroyed by a bulldozer. The surviving chamber would appear to have been 6.2m long x 1.2m wide x 80cm in height. No visible trace of the souterrain can now be seen. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 301. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
