• WX036-012001 Church
  Description

  Marked faintly as a rectangular enclosure (dims. c. 20m NW-SE; c. 20m NE-SW) described as the 'site of Killell Church and Grave Yard' on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6 inch map, and similarly on the 1924 ed. It is situated on a NE-facing slope of a W-E spur between W-E streams c. 180m to the S and c. 50m to the N. It is possibly of early origin. This is a roughly circular but overgrown and slightly raised clearing in a coniferous forest (diam. c. 40m) defined by a scarp N-SE, with traces of a fosse (Wth of top 2.7m; D 0.4m) NW-N. There is a cairn (diam. 5m) around a tree stump in centre but there is no evidence of burial. A small cross inscribed slab (dims 0.4m x 0.33m; T 5cm) was found on the site and is now in the Wexford County Museum in Enniscorthy (Kelly 1988, 96, fig. 31d). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).   Situated on a NE-facing slope of a W-E spur between W-E streams c. 180m to the S and c. 50m to the N.   A small cross inscribed slab (dims 0.4m x 0.33m; T 5cm) was found on the site of Killell church (WX036-012001-) and graveyard (WX036-012002-), and it is now in the Wexford County Museum in Enniscorthy (WX020-031016-) (Kelly 1988, 96, fig. 31d).   Situated on a NE-facing slope of a W-E spur between W-E streams c. 180m to the S and c. 50m to the N. The church of Killell (WX036-012----) and its graveyard (WX036-012001-) are not identifiable within an ecclesiastical enclosure that is a roughly circular but overgrown and slightly raised clearing in a coniferous forest (diam. c. 40m) defined by a scarp N-SE, with traces of a fosse (Wth of top 2.7m; D 0.4m) NW-N. • WX036-057 Moated site
  Description

  Situated on a fairly level landscape with a slight slope down to the W where a small N-S stream is c. 260m distant. This is a rectangular area (dims. 66m NW-SE; 62m NE-SW) in a coniferous forest with slightly raised corners defined by flat-bottomed moats (Wth of top 6m at NW to 10m at SE and c. 20m at SW; Wth of base 3m at NW to 6.5m at NE; D c. 1m generally to 2m at SW), except at SW where the moat is more rounded and ill defined. A leat enters at the W corner and exits at the S corner. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
