Description
Identified from an aerial photograph (Bruff Survey: Map 23, Bruff 267.1; 4/3665). In rough, damp pasture. Oval area (28m N-S; 40m E-W) defined by scarped edge (Wth 2.55; H 0.35m) with shallow external fosse (Wth 4.95m; D 0.1m) most evident SE-NE. Interior is generally level; ring-barrow (LI023-306----) in NE quadrant. The morphology of this enclosure indicates that it may be Bronze Age in date (Doody 2008 132). In undulating pasture within a large rectangular field 125m N of the townland boundary with Ballyphilip. One of 12 ring-barrows (LI023-275/79---- and LI023-280/866----) in three adjacent fields in a cluster / cemetery (ext. diam. c. 200m). Ring-barrow (LI023-276---) lies 15m to ESE. A separate ring-barrow cemetery also comprising of twelve sites (LI023-22501/12-) is located 300m to SE in Ballyphilip (Clanwilliam By.) townland. The ring-barrow is not depicted on historic OSi maps. Not visible on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12 or on Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 26101; AP 4/3665) as a circular ring-barrow (ext. diam. c. 10 N-S; 8m E-W). The ring-barrow is not visible on Google Earth orthoimages. Identified as a small semicircular-shaped cropmark by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 26109: AP 4/3665). Monument is visible as a faint circular-shaped cropmark on OSi orthoimage taken 2005-2012 and on Digital Globe aerial orthoimage taken 2011-2013, however is not visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. Description
In low-lying, wet pasture, which is cut by land drains and watercourses. A large complex of ring-barrows are clustered across the S area. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified as six intersecting linear and slightly curvilinear-shaped cropmarks by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 261.12: AP 4/3664). Anomalies are visible as a series of at least six roughly linear and slightly curvilinear-shaped cropmarks (approx. L 400m) running NE-SW and NW-SE, N-S and E-W, covering an area of at least 20ha on OSi orthoimage taken 2005-2012 and on Digital Globe aerial orthophoto taken 2011-2013,.
