  Description

  In elevated pasture and rock outcrop. Sub-circular area (18m NNW-SSE; 16m ENE-WSW) enclosed by earthen bank (Wth 4.0m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.85m) W-NE and by intermittent stone kerbing ESE-W; possible entrance at ENE. Intervening fosse (basal Wth 1.6m) N-NE. Substantial berm (Wth 17.2m) WSW-SE contains conjoined enclosure (LI023-313----) at WNW. Outer bank (Wth 6.2m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.65m) NW-NNW and NE-ESE, is levelled NNW-N. Outer fosse (Wth 6.2m; D 0.8m) NE-ESE. No evidence of outer bank or fosse at SE. Interior has uneven surface; two regular holes recently dug within N-sector. • LI023-020 Enclosure
  Description

  In rough pasture, on rock outcrop, to W of top of Knockroe Hill with panoramic views SE-NE but restricted NE-SE by higher ground. Sub-circular area (34m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by stoney bank (Wth 4.8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.4m). Gap in bank (Wth 3m) at NE. Bank incorporates kerbstones S-W, intermittent W-NNE. There is a concentration of small loose stones NNE-E and kerb evident again E-S. Upright rectangular stone (Wth 0.18m at base; Wth 0.1m at top; H 0.6m) forms part of kerbing at N. Interior is raised in centre (rock outcrop), from where ground slopes down gently to NW and SW. Hut sites (LI023-308---- and LI023-309----) within. Large linear mound (long-axis E-W) to NE may be remnants of an old field boundary. There is a sheer drop c. 8m outside enclosing element S to NW.   Description

  Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on OS map, is located in dense deciduous woodland on a steep E-facing slope, overlooking a stream. It is totally engulfed by dense overgrowth of trees and undergrowth of briars, thorn trees and furze bushes.   Description

  In undulating pasture with occasional rock outcrops, on a S-facing slope. Square area (16m N-S; 15.3m E-W) with rounded corners, enclosed by low earthen bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.45m) SW-NW but reduced to scarped edge (Wth 2.4m; H 0.85m) NW-SW, with external fosse (basal Wth 4.0m; overall Wth 7.55m; D 0.7m). Foss re-cut during drainage works NE-NW and is shallow (basal Wth 1.6m; overall Wth 5.8m; Dth 0.85m) NW-NE. Drainage ditch (long-axis c.   Description

  On summit of hill, in area of natural rock outcrop, at spot height (672 ft); panoramic views in all directions. No visible surface trace of any archaeological features in this location. Trigonometric station now to NE, may have been moved from rock outcrop to immediate NW as concrete base in-situ there. Wooden Holy Year cross mounted on concrete platform with plaque on NE-side. According to OS Name Books (Westropp 1906-7, 92) on the summit of this hill 'a mound of fallen rubble was called "Shancuirt" ' but Westropp could 'find no certain records' (ibid.) of a castle here.   Description

  On Knockroe Hill in rough hillside pasture, with panoramic views to the NW, W and SW. The site is 20m N of the enclosure (LI023-020----) on the W edge of steep break in slope close to the summit of the hill. Knockroe Hill and the hillside terraces around it (N, W and SW) are densely occupied with forts (LI023-019----) 280m to SW and a variety of circular (LI023-263-/262/314) 170m to E, 140m to N and 130m to E. The site is not depicted on the OSi 1840 ed. 6-inch and 1897 ed. 25-inch map. It is visible on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-2013. Identified on the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 26804: AP 4/3742) as a linear earthwork orientated E-W (ext. dims. 10m N-S; 50m E-W). Visible on Digital Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. The feature may be a rock cut path from the E terrace below the enclosure (LI023-020----) on the summit of the hill.   In elevated pasture on a steep ESE-facing slope. Sub-rectangular area (6m NNE-SSW; 8m WNW-ESE) cut into hill-slope at W (L 8m) and defined by earthen bank (Wth 3.05m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.65m) at N (L 6.5m) and S (L 8m) sides and by scarped edge (L 7m; Wth 1.5m; H 0.4m) at E. Interior is level. Possible entrance (Wth 1m) at E-end of S-side is accessed via ramp on exterior.   In elevated pasture on a steep SE-facing slope. Square area (5.5m NE-SW; 6m NW-SE) cut into hill-slope to NW and defined by earthen bank (Wth 4.1m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.25m) on NE and SW-sides; enclosing element reduced to scarp at SE-side. Cut into hill-slope to create a level interior that is now poached by cattle. Rock outcrop exposed at NW-side.   On WNW berm of cliff-edge fort (LI023-019----). Sub-circular area (10m NE-SW; 8m NW-SE) adjoining exterior of inner bank to E, cut into hill-slope SSE-SSW and defined by low earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.45m) SW-NE. Possible entrance (Wth 2m) at ENE. Interior has a N-facing slope. Square platform (dims. 6m NNE-SSW; 5m ESE-WNW) adjoins to S at a slightly higher level and also adjoins the cliff-edge fort to W.   Description

  In elevated pasture, on a S-facing slope. Complex of eight adjoining enclosures that constitute a field system. Field 1 (8m N-S; 6m E-W) adjoins natural rock outcrop to E, field 2 to S and field 5 to W). Field 2 (15m N-S; 11m E-W) adjoins natural rock outcrop to E, field 1 to N, abuts field 3 to SW and adjoins field 5 to W. Field 3 (22m NNW-SSE; 20m ENE-WSW) adjoins fields 5 and 6 to N and NW respectively; field 4 (13m NE-SW; 8m NW-S) is within SE-quadrant. Field 5 (25m N-S; 22m E-W) adjoins fields 1, 2, 3 and 6 to E, SE, S and W respectively. Field 6 (39m NNW-SSE; 26m ENE-WSW) adjoins fields 3 and 5 to SE and E respectively and is the largest field; lazybeds within and sheer slope to W. Field 7 (11m N-S; 6m E-W) abuts fields 3 and 6 to E and N respectively; adjoins field 8 to S and natural rock outcrop to E. Field 8 (9m N-S; 8m E-W) adjoins field 7 to N and adjoins natural rock outcrop to E. All fields are defined by low earthen banks (Wth 4.05m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.5m) and in some cases utilise natural rock outcrop to form one side (e.g. E-sides of fields 1, 2, 7 and 8). There is a sheer fall of ground immediate W of this area.   Description

  In a small glaciated valley, on SSW-facing slope with cliff face to NE. Rectangular area (11m NNE-SSW; 9.5m ESE-WNW) defined by earth-and-stone bank (L 8.7m at N; L 10m at E; L 8.6m at S) which has a gentle curve outwards (L 12m; Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.3m) at W. Evidence of stone facing along interior of N-side interior. Possible entrance (Wth 2m) in S-side; two breaches in N-side appear recent. Trace of fosse (Wth 3.35m; D 0.15m) outside bank to W. Interior slopes downwards with prevalent slope. Old field boundary (long-axis N-S) extends from N-side and a second of similar orientation is adjacent SE corner.
